John P. Legel, known affectionately as John, passed away on October 11, 2025, at the age of 55. He was born on July 24, 1970, in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where he grew up surrounded by family, faith, and a deep love of sports.

John attended Washington High School, where his competitive spirit and leadership shined on the field and in the classroom. He went on to play football and baseball at Augustana University, earning his degree in History. His passion for athletics led him to Paris, France where he played professional football — an adventure that reflected his drive, determination, and love of life. In 2001, John was honored with induction into the Washington High School Hall of Fame, a testament to his outstanding achievements and lasting impact on the athletic community.

John built a remarkable career in orthopedic sales, dedicating over 21 years to Zimmer Biomet. He was deeply respected for his hard work, honesty, and ability to connect with everyone he met. Whether with a surgeon, a teammate, or a friend, John made people feel valued and heard.

Above all, John's greatest pride and joy was his family. He shared a beautiful life with his wife, Lisa, and was a devoted father to his children, Tommy, Kayla, and Tedy. He loved cheering them on, sharing his wisdom, and filling their home with laughter and warmth. His presence was steady, his humor contagious, and his love unwavering.

John was preceded in death by his parents, William and Carole Legel. He is survived by his loving wife, Lisa; children, Tommy, Kayla, and Tedy; brothers and sisters, Tim (Judy) Legel, Rebecca Clinton (George Hamilton), Tom Johnson, Mitch Legel (Sue), Toni Johnson, and Billy Legel; along with many nieces, nephews, extended family members, and lifelong friends.

John's legacy of kindness, loyalty, and love will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him. He will be remembered for his laughter, his strength, and the way he made life brighter for everyone around him.
