Joe F Wurtz, born on March 20, 1936, in Cincinnati, Ohio, lived a life full of hard work, laughter, and love. He passed away peacefully at Dougherty Hospice House on August 22, 2026, after a short illness.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Rhonda, and his children: Tammie (Mike), Mark (Maria), Jeff (Tammy), and Theresa (Cary). Joe’s legacy included his 11 cherished grandchildren – Nicholas, Ashley, Mike, Madison, Cady, Kyle, Kenzie, Matthew, Katarina, Ysabel, and Ally – and seven great-grandchildren: Jax, Jase, Jade, Luke, Izzy, Ronin, and Ophelia.

A dedicated worker, Joe spent 31 years at the John Morrell Company in Sioux Falls, followed by tenures at Nash Finch and CCL Label. He was an ardent fan of the Cincinnati Bengals and the Minnesota Timberwolves. His passion for sports shone through his love for bowling, tennis, and particularly golf. As a member of Elmwood Golf Course, he embraced the game wholeheartedly.

Joe’s faith was an integral part of his life as a member of Calvary Episcopal Cathedral, where he participated in the Men’s Group and later as a Lay Eucharistic Visitor with Rhonda. Known for his humor and kindness, Joe never met a stranger. His teasing, yet warm spirit endeared him to family and friends alike.

He will be deeply missed.

Memorial services will be held at 1:00 pm, Friday, August 28, 2026, at Calvary Episcopal Cathedral (500 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls). Memorials may be directed to Calvary Episcopal Cathedral or the Alzheimer's Association .
