Judith Horan, 68 of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on Tuesday, January 21, 2025, at the Dougherty Hospice House.

Visitation with the family present will be from 4 to 7 pm with a prayer service at 6:30 pm on Thursday, January 23, 2025, at the Miller Southside Chapel 7400 S. Minnesota Avenue, with a private burial at the South Dakota Veteran's Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Judy Horan memorial at the LifeScape McDowell House.

Judith Elizabeth Horan (Campbell) was born April 17, 1956, in Saint Cloud, Minnesota.  She was the fourth of six children born to Kathryn and Calvin Campbell.

As a child, she described herself as a "Tomboy", preferring to play outside with the boys and help her father.

Judy was raised in a wonderful home with her sisters, Anne, Kathy, Susan, Barbara, and brother Steven, and often looked back fondly on her happy childhood and teenage years. She graduated from Cooper High School in 1974.

She was very proud about winning the school ping pong championship as a young girl, which we all found endearing.  Another proud accomplishment for Judy was that she was on the honor roll throughout her high school years.  She was able to take an exciting trip overseas her senior year to Russia during the Cold War.  Judy was a member Cooper Class of 1974.

In 1974, she met Gale Horan as they both worked at Judy's parents' roller-skating rink, Carousel Skate.  She felt it was love at first sight, which proved to be true as the two never left each other's side for the next fifty years.  Judy and Gale were married on June 28,1975 in Sioux Falls, SD.

One of the greatest adventures of Judy's life was traveling abroad to West Germany where Gale was stationed in the United States Air Force. It was there that the couple welcomed their first child Sarah in 1978. Judy often reminisced about that special chapter in her life, going to Christmas markets and on Volks marches.

In 1982, the couple was blessed with a son, Benjamin, born in Sioux Falls, SD.  They raised their children in Sheldon, Iowa where they loved attending sporting and theatre activities. Throughout the years, Judy and Gale found much happiness creating beautiful homes with gorgeous, landscaped yards, traveling and raising their daughter and son.  They later settled in the Sioux Falls area.  They were blessed with six grandchildren; Jonah, Grace and Miles to Sarah, and bonus granddaughter Maci Van Riesen; Kendyl and Turner to Ben and Andrea. Watching them grow and spoiling them far too much was one of the greatest joys of Judy's life. There wasn't a holiday or Birthday that went by without Grandma Judy making treat bags and giving special gifts to her cherished Grandkids. She was a wonderful grandmother!

Judy simply had a warmth about her.  She had a long career teaching many special needs elementary children, a reflection of her compassion and kindness.  She found much personal fulfillment in this role.  After retiring in 2019, Judy enjoyed puzzles, cooking, dinner with friends, tending to her magnificent flowers and plants, participating in the Great Plains Street Rodders, and The Corvette Club of Sioux Falls and having coffee with her special neighbor ladies. She was infamous for hosting holiday parties with elaborate tablescapes and decorations, and huge spreads of delicious food.  Every occasion was celebrated with a feast of Judy's dishes, and we will never be able to make cheesy potatoes like she did!

Judy shared her life with her soul mate and best friend Gale, and the pair was inseparable.  He lit Judy's life with immeasurable happiness and unconditional love to the very end. Theirs is a love that will live on forever.

She shared a close, special bond with Daughter Sarah and boyfriend Grant, and Son Ben and Andrea Horan.  She remained very close with her four dear sisters, as well as brother and sister-in-law Dale and Dianne Horan, in addition to many other brothers and sisters-in-law, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Judy was not only a classic beauty on the outside, but also had a soul that touched many lives with her warmth, humor, huge heart and love.  She lived a dignified, honorable life filled with many memories and smiles.  She will be eternally missed and forever loved.

She is preceded in death by her parents Kathryn and Calvin Campbell, brother Steven Campbell, mother-in-law Marian Horan, Father-in-Law Jim Horan, son in law William Sedelmeier, Grandma Elizabeth Thiesen, and Gale's grandparents Thelma and Newell Queen.

Judy is survived by her beloved husband of fifty years Gale Horan, daughter Sarah Sedelmeier (Grant Van Riesen) Tea, SD, Ben (Andrea) Horan, Colman, SD, Sisters Anne Erickson, Sioux Falls, SD, Kathy Cambell, Sioux Falls, SD, Susan Cambell, Minneapolis, MN, and Barbara (Jason) Rohlck, Sioux Falls, SD.  Grandchildren, Jonah Sedelmeier, Kendyl Horan, Grace Sedelmeier, Miles Sedelmeier, Maci Van Riesen, and grandma's special little buddy Turner (TJ) Horan.
