Kathy Ann Horkey, age 61, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away peacefully at her home on December 23, 2025.

A Celebration of Life will take place from 1:00 - 3:00 PM on May 10th, 2026, at Marion Park in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Kathy was born on April 22, 1964, in Marshall, Minnesota, to Robert and Marge. From a young age, she was known for her strong will, warm heart, and unmistakable presence—qualities that stayed with her throughout her life.

She had a deep love for her grandchildren, who were the light of her life. Kathy delighted in simple joys, especially playing word games like Wordle and Wordscapes on her phone. She had a special affection for outdoor animals, particularly squirrels, whom she faithfully fed—so much so that they grew comfortable approaching her, drawn to her gentle and welcoming spirit.

Kathy was strong-headed and independent, always knowing exactly what she wanted. She could make friends with anyone she chose and cared deeply for her neighbors and coworkers, never hesitating to lend a helping hand. Her kindness and openness left lasting impressions on everyone she met.

One of her most cherished traditions was singing "You Are My Sunshine" to her children—a song that has since become a treasured part of her grandchildren's lives, carrying her love forward through generations.

Kathy is survived by her sons, Matt Phair significant other (Kelsey),  Marshall Horkey significant other (Maddy) and her daughters, Megan (Adam) Karst and Michelle Horkey. Granddaughters Kambrie and Shae. Her mother Marge Kolb, her father Robert Murphy and stepmother Carol. Sister Kim (Curt) Mortenson, brother Kevin Murphy. She was preceded in death by her stepfather Robert Kolb.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. The family is taking time to plan a ceremony that truly reflects Kathy's life and spirit.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Kathy's honor.
One of her favorite charities was Feeding South Dakota.
