Kelli
Sombke
Aug 23, 1964 — Mar 20, 2026
Sioux Falls
Kelli Sombke, beloved daughter, sister, and mother, passed away at the age of 61, cradled in her daughter's arms on March 20, 2026, at Sanford Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD.
She was preceded in death by her father, Lawrence Sombke; her mother, Ethel Sombke (married to Lyle); her brother, Jon Sombke; her sister, Candice Sombke; her niece, Angie Frunz; and her great-nephew, Gabriel. Each of these cherished individuals left a profound mark on her heart.
Kelli was born in Aberdeen, South Dakota, on August 23, 1964, and was the youngest of six children. Her early life was marked by moves between Aberdeen and Tacoma, WA. She proudly graduated from Central High School in Aberdeen in 1982, a testament to her hard work and determination.
Kelli devoted many years to working at Cardinal Tool in Aberdeen, SD, and later transitioned to positions at various gas stations. After becoming a mother, she embraced new adventures, living in Sheridan, IN, and Tacoma, WA, before returning to Aberdeen. Following her mother's passing, she bravely moved to Fargo, ND, and ultimately settled in Sioux Falls, SD, in 2021.
An avid Seattle Seahawks fan, Kelli brought joy and laughter to those around her. She cherished her time with family and friends, always ready to lend a hand or share a kind word. She had a heart of gold, often saying she would give anyone the shirt off her back—something she had plenty of, as her loving spirit knew no bounds.
Kelli's memory will forever be held close by her daughter, Kaitlin (Bruce) Umphrey; her grandson, Zayden; her granddaughter, Nina; her brothers, Jeff (Marion) Sombke and Robin (Cynthia) Sombke; her sister, Sheri Cummins; countless nieces and nephews; and all the wonderful friends she touched throughout her life's journey. She leaves a legacy of love that will continue to resonate in the hearts of those who knew her.
