Kellin "Kelly" Duane DeVries, age 56, of Hartford, SD passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024 as a result of a motorcycle accident.

Funeral Service will be 10:30 am Wednesday, October 30 at Reach Church, 5101 S. Mellenberndt Place, Sioux Falls, SD with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD.

Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be 5:00 – 7:00 pm Tuesday, at Miller Funeral Home Westside Chapel, 6200 W. 41st Street, Sioux Falls, SD.

Kelly was born on January 17, 1968 to Duane and Sharon "Sheri" (Johnson) DeVries in Pipestone, MN. Kelly attended school in Adrian, MN from kindergarten through 9th grade and then the family moved to Sheldon, IA where he graduated from High School. While in his 40s Kelly went to Colorado Technical University and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration in 2014. Kelly worked at John Morrell/AmeriCold as Operational Supervisor 2nd shift, in Sioux Falls for 19 ½ years. He then went to Performance Pet Products in Mitchell, SD as the Supply Chain Manager for 2 years. Kelly then became the Warehouse Supervisor at CCL Label in Sioux Falls for 3 ½ years. In June of 2024, Kelly joined the team at Manitou Equipment America, LLC in Madison, SD as the Logistics Supervisor.

Kelly married Kim Christensen in 1991. They were blessed with 2 sons Jay and Joseph "Joe" DeVries. They made their home in Sioux Falls. After their divorce, Kelly met Geri Gaddis. Kelly and Geri were married on February 7, 2004 and they were blessed with their son Trever DeVries. One thing that was a big part of Kelly's life, was that when he was 4 years old he was burned by boiling water. He was being treated for his burns and a medication damaged the nerves to his ears. Kelly's hearing was impaired and he required hearing aids by the time he was 5 years old, until after his motorcycle accident in June of 2018 when his hearing was damaged even further. Kelly received his first cochlear implant, in May of 2019. He had to relearn the sounds that we take for granted, such as rain drops, bull frogs croaking, and the refrigerator's normal sounds. In 2023, Kelly received his 2nd implant; which was when he was informed that the model of his first implant had been recalled and during testing they determined his first implant was defective. He had the first implant removed in May of 2024, and the third implant was placed. After this Kelly's hearing was amazing and now he had to learn to turn the TV up so the rest of the people in the room could hear the TV.

Kelly was a devoted father, family man and an avid outdoorsman. He loved to go hunting with family and friends. He also enjoyed fishing, boating, enduro racing, working on vehicles, playing darts, gardening and especially riding his motorcycles. Kelly always came home with some hunting story; like burying the pickup in mud, or meeting a buffalo around the corner of a large rock. Kelly loved to go fishing, especially if he was with family or friends. He got a kick out of it when he was able to locate more fish, than the guide he hired one year while fishing at the Lake of the Woods. He enjoyed enduro racing, and building enduro race cars with friends.  He made many friends in the racing community. Kelly later was able to watch his sons, Jay and Joe race. Jay continues the racing tradition and Kelly was always thrilled to be sitting in the stands watching his sons race. He enjoyed working on vehicles for everyday life and for racing. He loved spending time with his sons with their heads under a car hood, changing breaks or fixing a tire after the whole tire fell off the front of the van. Kelly found pleasure in playing darts and spending time with his dart team made up of family and friends. His friends lovingly called him Boss Hog.  He loved introducing Joe and Trever to darts and took pleasure in teaching other young people how to play.  Kelly was on the board for Hartford Area Junior Dart League. Kelly enjoyed planting his garden and then seeing what could grow. His garden seemed to grow each year with his green thumb. Kelly loved riding his motorcycle whenever he was able. He strongly believed in motorcyclist rights and was active in ABATE of SD as a chapter rep and currently as the State MRF rep. He is a member of the Zen chapter of ABATE of SD, member of ABATE of SD and MRF, Motorcycle Riders Foundation. He was always willing to help someone and he was willing to listen and be a sounding board for people. Kelly loved spending time with his family, friends and pets. His family and friends know him as the most kind, caring and gentle man. He will be greatly missed by many people.

Grateful to have shared Kelly's life with him are his mom, Sheri; his wife, Geri both of Hartford, SD; 3 sons, Jay (Kelsi Eaton) of Spencer, IA, Joe (Kathleen) of Sioux Falls, and Trever of Hartford, SD; 3 grandchildren, Jep, Nova and Josie; 3 siblings, Tim (Deb) of Hartford, SD, Howie Kolander, and Teri McKenney both of Sioux Falls; many nieces and nephews; other extended family; and many friends.

He was proceeded in death by his dad, Duane; 4 grandparents, Leonard and Leona DeVries, and Ward and Opal Johnson; father-in-law, Evert Fredricks and mother-in-law, Rhoda Fredricks.
