With deep sorrow and abiding love, we announce the passing of Kenneth Jay Warne, 65, of Hartford, South Dakota, who passed away peacefully on June 28, 2025. Ken was a beloved uncle, brother, son, and friend whose impact will be felt for generations to come.

Ken graduated from West Central High School in 1978, and proudly served four years in the United States Army immediately following graduation. His time in the service reflected his lifelong commitment to duty and country.

Born March 12, 1960, in Sioux Falls, SD, Ken spent most of his life in Hartford, SD, where he was known for his steady presence, generous heart, and unforgettable sense of humor. He lived a life of service, friendship, and quiet strength—a life well-lived and deeply meaningful.

Ken worked in a variety of roles that reflected his hardworking spirit and his desire to serve. He was a proud part of the family business, working alongside his nephew, Zach, at Pivot, performing painting and millwork jobs. He also spent time at Old Home Dairy, maintained the greens with care at Central Valley Golf Course, and gave his time and talents to public safety and service. His resume included serving as a rescue diver, firefighter, EMT, CPR instructor, and security officer for both the Minnesota Vikings and Minnesota Gophers—roles he approached with dedication, courage, and heart.

Ken was a protector by nature - someone you could always count on. He didn't seek recognition; he simply showed up, did the work, and made the world a little better because of it.

In his free time, Ken enjoyed golfing, watching football, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and sharing stories over cold beverages with friends—moments that reflected his love of life and camaraderie.

In recent years, Ken bravely struggled with neuropathy and cirrhosis of the liver. A recent fall at home led to a short hospital stay, during which he peacefully gained his angel's wings, leaving behind a legacy of love and strength.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Douglas Warne and Sandra Haugo; his brother, Keith Warne; his grandparents, Tom and Margaret Warne and Lester and Kathryn Starnes; and his ex-wife, Gail.

Ken is survived by his stepmother, Kathy Warne; stepfather, Roger Haugo; his brothers: Kevin (Lori) Warne, Brian (Melissa) Sprouse, Shannon Sprouse, Dennis Warne, and Eric Haugo; his sister, Kristi Nordquist; and his nephews: Zach (Janni) Warne, Mitch Warne, Justin (Karlie) Warne, and Greg Nordquist.. He is also survived by aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, extended family, close friends, and his loyal four-legged companion, Rocky, who rarely left his side and was truly part of the family.

A gathering of friends and family to celebrate Ken's life will take place on Sunday, July 20th, from noon to 5:00 PM at the Hartford City Park - picnic shelter (nearest the pool). All who knew and loved Ken are welcome to attend and share memories, laughter, and stories in his honor.
Food and beverages (water and sodas) will be provided. Please bring your lawn chairs—and BYOB.

Kenneth Jay Warne will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the steady love, humor, and heart he gave to everyone lucky enough to know him.
