Kim Stern, 72 of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away with family at his side after a short bout with cancer.

Visitation with the family present will be from 4 to 6 pm on Monday, February 17, 2025, at the Miller Westside Chapel, 6200 West 41st Street. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 am on Tuesday, February 18, 2025, at Westside Lutheran Church, 3901 Oklahoma Avenue, with a private burial at the Ida Grove Cemetery in Ida Grove, IA, at a future date.

Kim James Stern was born August 7, 1952, to James Ellis Stern and Valera (Stender) Stern in Ida Grove, Iowa.  He has one sister, Janice Elise Stern, who resides in Iowa City, Iowa.

Kim married his high school sweetheart, Georgia Ann Lantz, on June 22, 1974, in Ida Grove.  The couple just celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.

They have two daughters, Erika Jill (Jason) Reisdorfer, who have two daughters, Rayna Jaye and Mallory Kaye, and Alexa Ann (Martin) Maud, who have one daughter, Morgan Eave.

Kim was baptized in 1952 at Friedins Evangelical Reformed Church in Schleswig, Iowa, and confirmed in 1966 at the United Church of Christ in Schleswig and confirmed again in 1974 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Ida Grove.

Kim received his college degree in Business at Iowa Community College in Fort Dodge, Iowa after graduating from Schleswig Community High School in 1970.

For employment, he worked at Bills Market and Peterson Construction in Schleswig.  After launching his career with JCPenney & Co. in Denison, Iowa, he was transferred in 1976 to Sioux Falls, South Dakota when the Empire Mall opened.  He worked 38 years for JCPenney & Co.  After retiring, Kim acquired his South Dakota Applicator License and fertilized lawns for Green4Ever for many years.

Kim was a devoted loving husband and the best girl dad ever.  Family meant everything to Kim.

You could always find him in his garage with the radio on, doing laundry or other tasks around the home.

A day didn't go by without reruns of The Andy Griffith Show, Everybody Loves Raymond, Funtime Polka or anything Iowa Hawkeyes.

Kim cherished his annual trips to Mackinac Island, Michigan.  He and Georgia enjoyed staying at The Island House each year.

These two weeks of paradise were spent talking with the locals, listening to live music at The Pink Pony, golfing and walking the entire island.

Spirituality was important to Kim.  Sunday mornings were sacred.  They were consumed by watching a minimum of three church services on tv.

Kim was a very private, simple man who loved sharing positivity, kindness, respect, and dignity to all mankind.

Kim's motto was:  "Enjoy each and every day.  Each day is a gift - breathe it, feel it, and cherish it.  And for goodness sake, don't miss a moment."
