Obituary

Kimberly Hofer, longtime employee of Sanford, died November 2nd, 2025, at Ava's House in Sioux Falls, SD, surrounded by friends and family. She was 48. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm Thursday, November 6, 2025, at Miller Funeral Home, 6200 W. 41st St.

Kimberly "Kimmie" Dawn Hofer was born January 18th, 1977, in St. Louis, Missouri, to Francis Kotraba Jr. and Susan (Prewitt) Kotraba. She attended St. Louis public schools and graduated from South County Technical High School in 1995. Following high school, she worked in many capacities for Sanford throughout her life.

On May 19th, 2001, she was united in marriage to Brandon Hofer at St. Francis of Assisi in St. Louis. Living in St. Louis, they purchased their first home but soon moved to Sioux Falls to raise their three children and many equally loved pets. She was a devoted employee to Sanford through many different roles and always served patients and co-workers with equal respect and care. Kim made best friends everywhere she went and had open arms and heart for the children and loved ones of all her friends and family. She loved crime shows, reality television, Michael Jackson, Elvis Presley, "gangsta" rap, her husband, children, and pets; helping her friends with employment, babysitting, and relationships; vacationing, being spontaneous, being right, and being beautiful. She excelled at all she set her heart on.

Those who remember Kim recall her smile, her tenderness, her quipiness, her joy, her devotion, and loyalty. She loved her animals, especially dogs, pigs, and monkeys. She always gave herself to others, always stood up for what she believed in, and had the best intentions and hope for all those she met in life. Even in her final days, her greatest concerns were for the well-being and future of all her countless best friends and extensive family. She was lucky to spend her final days with four generations of her family around.

Grateful for having shared her life with her husband, Brandon; son, Joseph Hofer; daughters, Taylor Hofer, Kara Hofer; dogs, Maggie, Tyson, Groot, Ivy; grandmother, Ruby Prewitt; mother, Susan; uncle, Bud; her brothers, Francis Joseph Kotraba III (Jackie), Daniel Kotraba (Jessica); nephews, Jacob, Owen; nieces, Lauren, Emma, Abby, Callie.

She was preceded in death by her grandfathers, Francis Kotraba Sr. and Larry Prewitt; grandmother, Beatrice Kotraba; father, Francis; and best friend, Kellie Reaves.
