Larry Andrew Hagen, 90, of Canton, SD, passed into the presence of the Lord God he loved and served on Saturday afternoon, September 27, 2025. A memorial Service will be held for Larry at 9:00 am, Monday, October 6, 2025, at Eastside Baptist Church, 6101 E. 49th St., Sioux Falls, SD.  Interment will follow at 11:00 am at the South Dakota Veterans Cemetery, 25965 477th Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD.

Larry was born on July 25, 1935, in Minneapolis, Minnesota.  He was the son of Edwin and Ruth (Linner) Hagen, the oldest of three sons. He proudly served his country in the United States Marines from 1953-1956 and 1957-1960.  Larry came to a saving faith in Christ as a young man while serving as a United States Marine during the Korean War.  He was called by God to serve as a missionary in Japan after his first term in the United States Marines and rejoined for a second term with the request that he be sent to Japan.  He met his wife Edith (Berg), where she was working at the Children's Gospel Mission in Minneapolis with Child Evangelism Fellowship.  Larry and Edith were married in Yokohama, Japan, on September 1, 1961.

The Wakkanai Baptist Church was started in 1965 and continues to be a light shining for the LORD in the city.  Larry started a missionary training program in the early 1980s that led to the establishment of missions and churches in four different cities in northern Hokkaido.  Larry and Edith faithfully served God as missionaries in the city of Wakkanai until May of 1996, when they retired from the mission field, having passed the Lord's work in Wakkanai to their son-in-law and oldest daughter, missionaries John and RuthAnna Mather.  Although he had left the mission field of Japan, he continued to carry a strong burden for God's work there and was actively involved in the Japanese translation of the King James Version (KJV) Bible.  His desire was to see the whole Word of God in the Japanese language.  After retiring as a missionary and returning to the United States, Larry served as an interim pastor at Baptist churches in two cities in Kansas (Wellington and Merriam).  He also served as a deacon at Eastside Baptist Church in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and often filled in for pastors in neighboring towns and cities that needed someone when the pastor was gone.

Larry loved the Lord, God's Word, his family, ministering to the Lord's children, witnessing to the unsaved, and helping others.  He will be greatly missed by family and all who knew him.

Larry is survived by his children: RuthAnna (John) Mather, Johnathan Hagen, Amy Willis, and Deborah (David) Dillon; and his grandchildren: Andrew (Katie), Joshua, David (Bella), Hannah, Sarah, and Timothy Mather; Keigo (Misaki) Nomura; Joshua (Caiti), Caleb, Nathan, and Rebekah Willis; Joanna Dillon, Abigail (Elijah) Kazarovich, Katheryn (Phill) Guffey, and Luke Dillon; fourteen great grandchildren; and his brother Ronald (Ava) Hagen. He is further survived by nieces, nephews, and other relatives.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Edwin and Ruth Hagen, his wife, Edith, his brother, Kenneth (Joyce) Hagen, and a grandson, Seth Willis.
