Obituary

Laura Jo ("Laurie") Donohue of Sioux Falls died Sunday, May 17, 2026, at Sanford USD Medical Center and Hospital.  She had been treated for CLL - Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia for several years. Laura was born on May 20, 1953, in Long Beach, California, and moved with her mother, Ruth, to Sioux Falls, where her mother married Harvey D. Goeman.

Laura attended Laura Wilder Grade School, Edison Junior High School, and graduated from Washington High School in 1971. She attended Sioux Falls College (now the University of Sioux Falls) and Augustana College (now Augustana University) and then worked as a legal assistant for William Clayton, the United States Attorney.  On May 28, 1977, she married P. Daniel Donohue at St. Joseph Cathedral in Sioux Falls with Monsignor John J. McEneaney officiating. She later worked for Richard Munce in the mortgage loan division at Northwestern National Bank (now Wells Fargo) in downtown Sioux Falls before retiring to start and raise a family of three wonderful daughters who, with her husband, turned out to be her very best friends.

Throughout the years, she was an avid reader and never lost her love of learning. Her family will always remember her ability to recite poems from memory. In addition to reading several books each year with her favorite book club, Laura enjoyed daily walks through McKennan Park, watching Jeopardy, playing bridge and Mah Jongg, monthly painting classes, and her involvement with PEO Chapter BC. She also enjoyed dinner with friends and a daily cup of coffee at Starbucks. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who greatly enjoyed attending the many educational and athletic activities of her children and grandchildren, as well as planning annual vacations with her extended family at her winter home in La Quinta, California, and at other locations throughout the United States.

Laura was preceded in death by her parents and is survived by her husband Dan, daughters Erin (Erich) Snyder, Margaret (Ryan) Green, and Elizabeth (Ross) Wheeler, her brother Dan (Shelli) Goeman, and her grandchildren Oliver, Norah, Greta, and Forrest Green of Edina, Minnesota, Ethan Snyder of Dallas, Texas, and Grace and Katherine (Kate) Wheeler of Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Visitation with the family present will be on Thursday, May 21, 2026, from 5 to 7 pm at Miller Funeral Home Downtown (507 S Main Ave) in Sioux Falls. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Church of St. Mary in Sioux Falls beginning at 10:30 am on Friday, May 22, 2026.  Memorials may be directed to Teddy Bear Den, the Sioux Falls State Theater, the Sioux Falls Tennis Association, and the City of Sioux Falls for the improvement of McKennan Park.
