Obituary

LaVerna Jean Jacobsma passed away Wednesday, February 18, 2026 at Ava's Hospice House, Sioux Falls, SD with her family by her side.  She was 75.

Funeral service will be 10:30 am Friday, February 27 at Central Valley Community Church, 800 Cressman Trail, Hartford, SD with burial at the Hartford Community Cemetery.

Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm Thursday, February 26 also at the church.

LaVerna was born June 29, 1950 in Sioux Falls, SD to Melvin Mager and Caroline (Townsend) Mager.  She graduated from Washington Senior High School.  She was married to George Gerry and from that union Tonya was born. George passed away in 2002.  She married Bob Jacobsma on March 12, 2005. They resided in Hartford, SD until present.  LaVerna worked at Nelson Lab for 25 years and then at Boot Barn until retirement.  She was a member of Central Valley Community church.  After retirement, she volunteered at church cleaning and working the food pantry, and also serving meals at the Senior Center.  She was also involved in the Hartford/Humboldt Right to Life.

LaVerna enjoyed working in her garden and mowing lawn.  She loved traveling all over the country seeing family. She also found enjoyment in entertaining friends and family, drinking coffee and playing games.

Grateful for sharing her life is her husband Bob; daughter, Tonya Gerry (Sioux Falls, SD); Step-children, Alisa (Dave) Satterlee, (Visalia, CO), Paul (Tyann) Jacobsma (Brookings, OR), Laura (Darin) Opdahl (Eugene, OR), Heather (Aaron) Featherstone (Johnson City, TN); 11 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; Sisters, Ellie (Delton) Lund, (Sioux Falls, SD), Brenda (Marty) Collins (Madison, SD), Christine (Doug) Wevik, (Beresford, SD); Brother, Wes (Gaye) Mager (Jasper, MN); Sister-in-law, Chris Mager (Sioux Falls, SD).  She had many nieces and nephews and uncountable friends.  She was preceded in death by her parents and her brother, Scott Mager.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Hartford/Humboldt Right to Life in honor of LaVerna Jacobsma (PO Box 151 Humboldt, SD. 57035).
