Linda Marie
(Billion) Bolger
Jun 27, 1940 — Nov 5, 2025
Sioux Falls
Linda Marie (Billion) Bolger passed away surrounded by family on November 5, 2025 at Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls. She was 85 years old.
Born Linda Marie Lambur on June 27, 1940, she was the fourth of five children in the George and Alice Lambur (nee Kearns) family. She was born and raised in Chicago's Southside Beverly neighborhood, and throughout her life held a deep fondness for her Chicago roots and Irish heritage.
Linda graduated from Mother McCauley High School in 1958 and enrolled at Clark College in Dubuque, Iowa, intending to pursue a career in teaching. While in Dubuque, she met Jack Billion who was attending neighboring Loras College. The two fell in love and married on July 14, 1962 in Chicago where Jack was attending medical school at Loyola University.
By 1970 the couple had welcomed their fifth child and began making plans to relocate from Illinois back to Jack's hometown of Sioux Falls. In 1972, they settled with their five children into a home on Duluth Ave in the North End of Sioux Falls. She lived in Sioux Falls ever since. Linda loved her neighborhood near the Cathedral and she made many close and enduring friendships.
Linda was a very kind and compassionate person with a quick wit and a deep, abiding love of family. Her philosophy on life was to be kind, and be honest – a shortened version of the Golden Rule. She possessed a natural charm and grace that endeared her to many. She was an excellent cook and loved to entertain with parties and at holidays. She was particularly fond of Christmas Eve, Halloween and St. Patrick's Day. Over the years her big kitchen table was open to family, friends, neighbors, priests and educators. She even hosted George McGovern one night during his campaign in 1972. Her kitchen regularly came alive with food, wine, song and laughter – and occasionally served as an impromptu dance floor.
In 1983 Linda married Brian Bolger, a long-time Irish North Ender with four children of his own. All of the children had by that time come to learn that in an Irish house, you could get scolded and hugged almost simultaneously. The two continued each other's traditions of warmth and hospitality throughout their marriage. Brian and Linda enjoyed each other's love and companionship for 27 years until Brian's passing in 2010.
Linda is survived by her children Matthew (Trudy), Suzanne (Jerry) Schrier, John (Katy), James (Xiomara) and Jane Sejnoha, along with many grand and great grandchildren and cherished nieces and nephews; She is also survived by her stepchildren Barb (Rich) Mayer, Steve (Sheila) and Ryan (Kristen), and daughter-in-law Allison Bolger.
Linda was preceded in death by her husband Brian, parents George and Alice, siblings George, James, Suzanne and Jane, stepson Mike Bolger, son-in-law Shane Sejnoha, grandson Joseph Viereck and great grandson Jaxson Viereck.
