Obituary

Linda Mae Johnson, 87 years young, passed away on Wednesday, April 22, 2026, at the Good Samaritan Society in Canton, SD. Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM, Friday, May 1st, 2026, at Woodlawn Cemetery. Please meet at the Woodlawn Cemetery gate off 26th Street at 10:45 AM for the procession to the graveside.

Linda was born on August 30, 1938, to Carl and Katherine (Sorenson) Hartman. She was married in 1956 to Kenneth Johnson, and they raised two children, daughter Cynthia and son Wayne, in Yankton, SD. They eventually moved to Sioux Falls, SD, next to a neighbor who was actually her sister Alice and brother-in-law Blackie. They had a special relationship caring for each other. Eventually, her husband passed, and real estate was being bought in their neighborhood. She moved to a new home, where her son later moved in to help.

After losing her son a few years later, her health was making it difficult to stay in her home safely, so she sold her home and moved into Washington Crossing Senior Independent Living in Sioux Falls, SD. Her health eventually continued to fail, leading to Helping Hands assisted living in Brandon, SD, and then Good Sam long-term care in Canton, SD. The family extends their gratitude to all of the staff who helped care for Linda. Throughout all these trials and tribulations, she was strong and persistent.

Linda was a skilled seamstress, creating doll clothes up to wedding dresses & veils. She loved many crafts and was a DIY'er, teaching her children many skills. She especially enjoyed spending time with her large family, gathering for bowling leagues and family fun.

Linda worked at various jobs, including a diner, Yankton Theater, Sunshine, and Hallmark in Yankton, SD. She later contracted to do laundry for the OBGYN department at the Sioux Valley Hospital.

Linda is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Johnson-Lamb; sister, Mary Fuller; brother, Dennis Hartmann; many nieces and nephews; one grandson; and one great-grandson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth Johnson; parents, Carl & Katherine Hartmann; sisters, Adeline (Hartmann) Sorenson, Louise (Hartmann) Bennett, Arlene(Hartmann/Huff)Vielmette, and Alice (Hartmann) Domangue; brothers,  Hans Hartmann, Bert Hartmann, and Verner Hartmann.

A big thank you to four special nieces who have been there for Linda 😜 and me.

May the Lord take good care of her.
