Lloyd L.
Sorensen
Jan 17, 1940 — Mar 1, 2025
Sioux Falls
Lloyd L. Sorensen, age 85, passed away on Saturday, March 1, 2025 at Dougherty House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Monday, March 10, 2025 at Miller Funeral Home – Southside Chapel (7400 S Minnesota Ave., Sioux Falls, SD).
Lloyd was born on January 17, 1940 to Leonard and Engrecia (Jensen) Sorensen at the family farm in Viborg, South Dakota where he grew up. He attended Viborg public schools, graduating from Viborg High School. A life-long farmer, Lloyd worked with his father on the family farm and then ran his own. He retired from farming in 1989.
Lloyd was joined in marriage to Ruby Gustafson on December 10, 1958 in Viborg. The couple had four children, Dale, Doug, Cyndi, and Susie, and they always had a family dog along with them. With a strong work ethic, an eye for efficiency, and steady dedication, providing for his family was a priority for Lloyd. His values were exemplified in teaching his children to farm with him, with careful specificity and a natural ability to lead. The family took vacations to Minneapolis, and attended many Twins games at the old Metrodome. Lloyd could, and would insist upon, fixing everything, and if his family had something that needed repair, he would be there. After retirement, Lloyd and Ruby moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota.
Lloyd was then able to spend more time with family. He had a special love for his grandchildren and would never miss a game where they were playing. Often a stoic man, his unique humor often came out when spending time with them, creating memorable moments. Lloyd and Ruby traveled together following his retirement. Lloyd loved baseball, and the couple visited various stadiums across the country. They also loved the lights and sights of Las Vegas from time to time. Lloyd enjoyed antiquing as well and would buy and sell different hidden treasures that he would find. Any time he found a little trinket with a hummingbird on it, he would bring it home to Ruby.
Grateful to have shared Lloyd's life with him are his wife, Ruby Sorensen of Sioux Falls, SD; his children, Dale (Cindy) Sorensen of St. Charles, MO, Doug (Diane) Sorensen of Brookings, SD, Cyndi (Troy) Bergh of Dakota Dunes, SD, and Susie Sorensen of Sioux Falls, SD; his grandchildren, Scott (Chelsea) Sorensen, Dana (Eric) Chole, Tyler (Kerry) Bergh, Trae (Taylor) Bergh, Dillon (Samara) Sorensen, Liza (Jeff) Jacobson of Brookings, SD, Amy (Kelly) Visser of Sioux Center, Brian Lathrop of Lennox, SD, and Kelly Brozik of Mitchell, SD; his 22 great-grandchildren; his brother-in-law, Ordell Gustafson; and many friends and extended family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Leonard and Engrecia Sorensen; his brother, Dennis Sorensen; and his sister, Betty Nelson.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Pioneer Memorial Hospital in Viborg, SD.
