Obituary

Lois VanWyhe, 94, passed away on Monday, February 23, 2026, at Ava's House in Sioux Falls. She was born on December 11, 1931, in Los Angeles, California, to Arthur Elmer Hill and Valera Opal Belding.

Lois built a full and meaningful life across the Midwest. She spent 17 years in Stover, Missouri, followed by 40 years in Hawarden, Iowa, where she raised her family. In her later years, she retired and made her home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where she has lived for approximately 35 years.

Lois's personal life was marked by two important marriages. She was married to Wilbur "Bill" Finch at Bridal Cave in Camdenton, Missouri, in 1950, and they shared many years together. Later, she married Robert VanWyhe.  Both Bill and Robert preceded her in death.

She is the mother of five sons—Doug, Dwight, Duane, Don, and Sonny Finch—and her family grew to include 12 grandchildren, many greatgrandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

For nearly 15 years, Lois shared a close and loving companionship with Dale Swan, her cherished "dance partner." Dale, who passed away in 2024, was embraced as family by Lois's sons and their families.

Lois was preceded in death by her twin brother, Louis, her brother, Leroy, and her sister, Lela. She remained active in her community, including her involvement with Active Generations in Sioux Falls.

She will be remembered with deep affection by her family and all who knew her.
