Obituary

Loretta Teresa Henning, age 91, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 27, 2026 at Dow Rummel Village in Sioux Falls, SD. Loretta was born on August 3, 1934, in Grand Prairie Township, rural Nobles County, MN to Joseph and Josephine (Gerardy) Deutsch. Loretta attended St. Mary's High School, graduating in 1952.

She lived in Luverne, MN for a short time before she married Franklin Henning on September 18, 1956 in Ellsworth, MN. After their marriage, the couple moved to Sioux Falls, SD where she initially maintained the household, but later joined her husband to own and operate F & L Auto Repair until their retirement in 1999.

Loretta enjoyed sewing, and was proud to make quilts for her children, grandchildren and some of her great-grandchildren. She grew up fishing with her parents and siblings and continued the tradition with her own family. She was a parish member of St. Joseph's Cathedral for over 67 years and was also involved in the Women's Church Group at Cathedral.

Spending time with her husband, Frank, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren was the singular most important part of her life.

Grateful for having shared her life were her husband, Frank; five children, Larry (Karen) Henning, Eden Prairie, MN; Mary Jo (Dr. Jeffrey) Murray, Sioux Falls; Michael (Holly) Henning, Brandon, SD; Kevin (Dianna) Henning, Sarasota, FL; Robert Henning, Plainfield, IL; and nine grandchildren and eleven great grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers, William Deutsch, Ellsworth, MN and John Deutsch (Trudy), Manley, MN; and two sisters-in-law Donna Deutsch, Luverne, MN and Betty Deutsch, Luverne, MN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and four brothers: Fabian, Lawrence, Edwin and Walter Deutsch.
