Loretta Munson, 87, a lifelong resident of Sioux Falls, passed away Monday, January 13, 2025, at Ava's House Hospice. Her memorial service will be at 1:00 pm on Friday, February 14th, with visitation one hour prior to the service, at First Lutheran Church. Loretta will be interred beside her parents in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Sioux Falls.

Loretta Lee Munson was born in Sioux City, Iowa on September 21st, 1937 to Roy and Thiel (Severson) Munson. She graduated from Washington High School in 1955 and Augustana College in 1959.  Loretta worked as a Property Underwriter for 35 years until her retirement in 2012.  She was an accomplished artist, an avid reader, and loved dogs, especially Scottish terriers.  Loretta was a member of the Insurance Women of Sioux Falls and First Lutheran Church, where she looked forward to the annual bazaar.  She enjoyed attending the South Dakota Symphony and community concerts in Sioux Falls.

She is survived by her brothers, David (Linda) Munson of Sioux Falls and Neil (Mary) Munson of Wausau, Wisconsin; and nine nephews, Michael and David Benson, Jeffrey O'Connor, Mark, Matthew, Andrew, Steven, Paul, and John Munson and their families.

Loretta was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Thiel (Severson) Munson; sisters, Marjorie (Ralph) Benson and Madeline (Toby) Wellenstein.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the physicians and staff at Sanford Hospital, Avantara Norton, and Ava's Hospice House for the excellent care they provided for Loretta in her final days.

It was Loretta's wish that memorials be donated to First Lutheran Church or the Sioux Falls Humane Society.
