Lorraine Rae Bickel, 84, peacefully passed away at Ava's House in Sioux Falls, SD, on Monday, June 22, 2026

Visitation will begin at 2:00 pm, followed by a Prayer Service at 3:00 pm on Monday, June 29, 2026, at Miller Funeral Home (Southside Location) 7400 S. Minnesota Ave., Sioux Falls, SD.

Lorraine Rae Larson was born January 5, 1942, in Mobridge, SD, to Bernice and Robert Larson. Lorraine's father passed away at a young age. After her mother remarried to Peter Aberle, the family moved to Chippewa Falls, WI, while Lorraine was a teenager. They later returned to Mobridge, where she graduated from high school.

In 1960, she met the love of her life, and on August 18 of that year, she married Harlan Bickel at Trinity Lutheran Church. Harlan enlisted in the United States Army, and the couple moved to Columbus, GA. They welcomed their son, Michael, on May 21, 1961. After Harlan was discharged, they moved back to South Dakota, first to Herreid and then to Aberdeen. There they spent 26 years raising their family, which grew with the birth of daughter Lisa on January 12, 1964, followed by daughter Becky on March 20, 1969. Lorraine worked at Dakota Sash and Door, as a bookkeeper at Coca-Cola, and also sold Stanley Home Products. She and Harlan loved to camp and fish, and she belonged to many church groups, bowling teams, and card clubs.

Lorraine and Harlan moved to Sioux Falls, where they finished out their careers. Lorraine worked for Northwest Fabrics and developed her love for quilting. When they retired, the couple bought a place in Yuma, AZ, where they resided as snowbirds for six months every year. She also loved their travels to Lake Louise and Banff in Canada.

Lorraine often said that her greatest accomplishment was being married for 60 years. Along the way, she and Harlan made many friends and treasured memories.

Lorraine is survived by; son Mike (Debbie) Bickel, Aberdeen, SD; daughters Lisa O'Neal (Michael Cramer) Mesa, AZ, and Raymond "Skip" O'Neal, Brandon, SD, Becky (Todd) Krueger, Sioux Falls, SD; brother Robert Larson, Aberdeen, SD; six grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

Preceding Lorraine in death are her parents, Robert and Bernice Larson and her loving husband, Harlan.
