Lucia (Lucy) Olivier passed away peacefully on the evening of August 13, 2025, at 9:02 pm in her home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

We invite all friends and family who loved Lucy to join us for the funeral services will be at 8:30 am. Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at Miller Funeral Home - Downtown Chapel with burial following at Minnehaha County Cemetery. There will be an honorary lunch service in remembrance of Lucy's favorite food at 10:30 am at LifeChange Church.

Lucy was born on December 16th, 1975, in Boston, Massachusetts, to Maria Taveira and Michael DeSousa. She was the youngest of four sisters: Elizabeth DeSousa, Joana DeSousa, and Cecelia DeSousa. From a young age, Lucy carried a compassionate spirit, a love for animals — especially cats and talking birds — and a heart full of humor and warmth.

She graduated from Turlock High School in Turlock, California, in the Class of 1995. Not long after, Lucy made a bold move across the country and eventually made her home in good ole Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Over the years, she held several jobs, including at John Morrell (now Smithfield), always known for her hard work and caring nature.

On December 15th, 2001, she married Joseph Clyde Olivier Sr. Together, they made a beautiful family with four children: Tayia Marae Christensen (29) and Charity Faith Arens (28), Joseph Clyde Olivier Jr (24), and Sylvia Rose Olivier (17). She was a proud and devoted grandma to 10 grandchildren, each of whom brought her joy.

Lucy was a devoted wife of 24 years to her husband Joseph Olivier Sr. who loved her very much. She was his best friends until the end. Lucy was a kind woman who believed not just in the vows spoken once at an altar, but in the everyday vows – in listening without judgement, in showing up when it was hardest to. Lucy brought warmth and tenderness to the trials of their marriage and laughter to the long years. A partnership not of perfection, but of patience. She loved not for show but for real. And in her, the spirit of what marriage could be – she was selfless, forgiving and faithful until the end. She loved her children more than anything.  Her teachings will forever follow her children throughout life, which are to be a "kind and generous to people, that you never know what other people are going through, and if you work hard, you can do anything you want in life." She was always able to comfort her children the way that nobody else could.

Lucy was deeply passionate about her faith and her family. Lucy gave others a hand and wings when she didn't have any herself. She was a phenomenal cook, always ready to prepare a warm, delicious meal for anyone in need. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her ability to lift the spirits of others with her humor and kindness was a gift to all who knew her.

Lucy is preceded in death by her father, Michael Dewayn DeSousa. Lucy is survived by Husband Joseph Clyde Olivier Sr., Children Tayia Marae Christensen, Charity Faith Arens, Joseph Clyde Olivier Jr, Sylvia Rose Olivia, Sisters Elizabeth DeSousa, Joana DeSousa, and Cecelia DeSousa, and Mother Maria Taveira, and 10 grandchildren.
