Marcella (Sally) Jean Fodness passed away Tuesday, June 2, 2026, at Legends at Lake Lorraine.

Sally was born on November 30, 1928, to Tena and James Kemink on a farm near Castlewood, SD. She grew up there and graduated from Castlewood High School. Sally married Francis Fodness on September 9, 1950. After a brief time in California, they made their home in Sioux Falls. The family business, Fodness Gravel, consumed most of Sally and Francis's time. In addition to Sally's work on the business side of Fodness Gravel, she excelled in cooking, baking, sewing, and being the best Mom! Sally cherished her family—especially those grandkids and great grandkids---and her friends. She and Francis managed to be very social in Sioux Falls and Arizona. Sally lived her last nine years at Legends at Lake Lorraine. She enjoyed her home, her friends, and the opportunities there. We are very appreciative of the caring Legends staff who enriched her life.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughters: Gail Meader-Graber; Julie Anderson (Dennis); four grandchildren: Jarod Meader; Jeffrey Anderson (Katie); Michael Anderson (Ali); and Joseph Meader (Shannon); and nine great-grandchildren. Sally was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Francis; her sister, Millie Wynberg; her brother, Raymond Kemink; a son-in-law, James Meader; and a son-in-law, Richard Graber.

Sally lived a long, healthy, active life, for which we were fortunate. Francis was truly the love of her life, and now they are together again.

Services for Sally will be private. Memorials may be made to Augustana University for an existing education scholarship established by Sally and Francis or the Sioux Falls Veterans Cemetery.
