Margaret (Maggie) Leigh Atkins, 38, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, March 12, 2026, at her home in White Lake, South Dakota. A Celebration of Life visitation will take place from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm, Friday, March 20, 2026, at Miller Funeral Home - Downtown Chapel, with memory sharing starting at 6:30 PM. There will be refreshments and fellowship at 7:00 PM at First Lutheran Church (The Gathering Hall). In honor of Maggie, please wear purple, a flannel, or a hat to the service.

Maggie was born on 10 February 1988 in Monterey, CA. Maggie was the third of four children born to Thomas J. and Leila P. Atkins. She was born two days before her Aunt Peggy's birthday and was named after her. We moved back to Sioux Falls in 1992, and Maggie attended school at Oscar Howe Elementary, Memorial Middle School, and Roosevelt High School, graduating in 2006.

Maggie was a multi-sport athlete excelling in Fast Pitch softball with Sioux Falls Chill, a great family of players and parents. Maggie played volleyball and basketball at Memorial Middle School & Roosevelt High School. She also competed in track in the 50 & 100 yd dash, relay team and long jump. She ran the 4x100 relay with her RHS team in the Howard Wood Relays in 9th grade.

Maggie worked in the hospitality business for many years as a beloved server and favorite bartender, and after training in Palm Springs, also worked as a skilled chef. She moved quite a few times while working in Sioux Falls, Freeman, White Lake, and Kimball in South Dakota, plus North Dakota, Wyoming, and Indiana.

Maggie followed in her dad's footsteps, learning to play and love the game of golf. She worked in the pro shop and cafe at Valley View Golf course in Freeman and played golf as often as she could. Maggie loved cooking, music, and shopping with her mother.

Maggie was a dog lover and cared for our Black Lab Buddy, her Aussie Shepherd Winston (Winnie), and, lastly, a lab mix Whiskey.

A natural artist, Maggie often expressed herself through her artwork and designed many of her own tattoos. She shared her family's love for music and was a lifetime fan of the Dave Matthews Band, having seen them live over a dozen times. She loved attending concerts with her loved ones and happened to run into Nick Jonas on the street in Omaha before the Jonas Brothers concert, and got a picture with him.

She is survived by her parents, Tom & Leila; her siblings, TJ, Amanda (Russell), and Rob (Becca); her favorite niece, Aliela; her nephew, Alaryk; her many aunts, uncles, and cousins; partner, Sarah; and best friends, Natalie, Jess, Mandy, and Rachel. She was preceded in death by both sets of grandparents.
