Marian Ethel Mannie, age 97, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away peacefully on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at Ava's House Hospice in Sioux Falls.

A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Monday, August 3, 2026, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church (5500 E 57th St) in Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation, with family present, will start one hour prior. Interment will take place at Woodlawn Cemetery in Sioux Falls.

Marian (Marion) Ethel Mannie was born on March 22, 1929, in McVille, North Dakota, to Ernest and Olive (Sears) Beckman. She grew up on a farm in Nelson County, North Dakota, and graduated from Tolna High School in 1947. She went on to earn a degree in dietetics from the University of North Dakota in 1951.

On June 8, 1951, she married her high school sweetheart, Rollin Mannie, beginning a loving partnership that would span more than 75 years.

While Rollin was serving in the Korean War, Marian served from 1951 to 1952 as a commissioned officer and dietetic intern in the U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Corps at the U.S. Public Health Service Hospital on Staten Island, New York. This experience marked the beginning of a lifelong commitment to nutrition, healthcare, and service to others. Throughout her professional life, Marian worked as a clinical and consulting dietitian. After moving to Sioux Falls, she continued her work at Luther Manor, where she shared her knowledge, compassion, and dedication to caring for others.

Following their marriage and Rollin's military service, the couple lived in several communities, including Williston, North Dakota; Muskegon, Michigan; Plainfield, Indiana; Little Rock, Arkansas; and Atlanta, Georgia, as Rollin pursued his career as a meteorologist with the U.S. Department of Commerce. In 1979, they settled in Sioux Falls, where Rollin served as Meteorologist-in-Charge of the National Weather Service office.

Throughout these years, Marian was a devoted wife and mother who created a loving home while raising their four children: Debra Haggard (Mark), Mark Mannie (Ann), Cynthia Taverna (Kurt), and Kevin Mannie (Jody). Nothing brought her greater joy than her family, and she cherished the blessings of 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.

Marian and Rollin both retired in 1990 and enjoyed many happy years in their home in the Tomar Hills neighborhood of south Sioux Falls. For approximately 15 years, they spent their winters in Texas and Arizona, creating cherished memories with their lifelong friends, Don and Charlene Clute.

A founding member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, Marian's deep Christian faith guided her life and inspired decades of devoted service to the church and its ministries.

An avid reader and lifelong learner, Marian remained curious and engaged throughout her life. She found joy in gardening, cooking, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. Never one to be idle, she filled her days with meaningful work, volunteer service, and a wide variety of interests. Her warmth, kindness, and welcoming spirit fostered many lasting friendships, and her compassion, generosity, and genuine concern for others left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

Marian is survived by her loving husband, Rollin; her children, Debra Haggard (Mark), Mark Mannie (Ann), Cynthia Taverna (Kurt), and Kevin Mannie (Jody); 10 grandchildren; 2 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Phyllis Jorde.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernest and Olive Beckman; her sister, Charlene Clute; and her brother, George Beckman.

Marian's life was characterized by faith, family, friendship, service, and love. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
