Obituary

Marian Schultz (Fritschen), of Sioux Falls, SD, and formerly of the Farmer and Spencer, SD, areas, passed away Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Sanford Ava’s Hospice House in Sioux Falls. She was 93.

Marian J. Schultz was born November 26, 1932, near rural Spencer, SD, to Andrew and Mathilda (Wehner) Fritschen. Marian was raised on a farm and attended school in Farmer, SD, for 12 years. In 1950, Marian moved to Mitchell, SD, and was employed at Rozum Motor Co. until 1954.

On June 7, 1954, Marian married the love of her life, Julius Schultz, in Farmer, SD. Julius and Marian farmed in the Spencer area for 37 years until 1991. They then moved to a new home in Sioux Falls, SD, where Marian worked for Hy-Vee through 2015.

Marian’s love of cooking, baking, and gardening was among her most celebrated talents. Their home on Sunnyview Dr was always bursting with colorful plants and flowers, with an immaculate landscape from early spring to late fall. She also provided many tomatoes, cucumbers, and other vegetables to family, friends, and neighbors. Marian was known for her spectacular homemade cookies, cinnamon rolls, and apple and peach pies.

Marian shared her life with her late husband Julius for 69 years. She is survived by her sons, Robert Schultz and William Schultz (Lisa Nemetz); five grandchildren: Ryan (Cate Schoenharl), Jordan (Angeli Tuesta Yangali), Braden (MacKenzie Schwarz), Erin (Mike) Kubinski, and Nate (Anneliese Pope); and two great-grandchildren, Mayve and Tommy Schultz.

She is preceded in death by her parents and her brothers and sisters, Andrew, Geraldine, Marge, Beverly, and Robert.
