Marie Cecelia (Malsom) Pitz, 92, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2025.

Born into a hardworking family, Marie grew up on a farm near Aberdeen, SD, alongside her five siblings. She met the love of her life, Howard Pitz, and they were married on May 11, 1953. Together, they built a life grounded in love, faith, and resilience—raising eight children and sharing 71 wonderful years before Howard's passing in December 2024.

A devoted mother and homemaker, Marie sewed, gardened, and canned to care for her family. When her children were older, she worked outside the home, co-founding a cleaning business and later holding positions at Litton Microwave, the Ramada Inn, and Sioux Valley Hospital. In retirement, she loved quilting and spent countless hours researching and preserving her family's genealogy. She found joy in fellowship and was known for her warmth, laughter, and the generous spirit with which she welcomed everyone into her home.

Marie's love for her family was her greatest joy, and her legacy lives on in her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

She is survived by her children: Dennis (Sherri), Steven (Candy), David (Linda), Donna (Jim), Terry, Kevin, Cindy (Mitch), and Leslie (Stacie); her sisters Fran Lingor and Margaret Braun; and her large, loving extended family. She was preceded in death by her husband Howard, parents Joe and Elizabeth Malsom, and brothers Casper, Valentine, and Stan.

A prayer service will be held at 10am on Tuesday, April 22, 2025, with visitation one hour prior, all at Miller Funeral Home—Downtown, Sioux Falls.Interment to follow at Hills of Rest Cemetery with a reception after at the funeral home.
