MarJean Dedrick, age 97 passed away on Sunday July 5, 2026 at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, SD.  A prayer service will be held at 4 pm with the family present to greet friends following on Friday, July 10, 2026, at the Miller Funeral home Downtown Chapel, 507 South Main Avenue. MarJean Joyce Ulfers was born on May 11, 1929, in Sioux Falls, SD to Venita and John Ulfers. Her mother married Fred Schuktnecht in 1931 and he gladly adopted MarJean. She was raised and received her education in Lennox, SD. MarJean continued her education at USD in Vermillion but when her father, Fred, was tragically killed in a vehicle/train accident it caused her to leave school and return to Lennox to live with her mother.

MarJean met the love of her life Dave Dedrick, and the couple were united in marriage on December 2, 1949, in Sioux Falls, SD and were later blessed with Dana, Dawn "Sunshine" and David Patrick.  MarJean was a wife, mother, and homemaker for the first many years of the marriage. She loved to socialize and played bridge and mahjong with several groups over the years. She continued that practice until just a few weeks before she passed. MarJean also enjoyed shopping and spending time with her friends and neighbors. Above all she cherished her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved attending their sporting activities, especially watching them play softball.

MarJean was a devout Catholic and long-standing member of Christ the King and Saint Mary's Church in Sioux Falls. Since 2015 she attended Sunday mass at Prince of Peace where she lived independently until her loving heart began to give out. She looked forward to being in the arms of God and would remind him everyday "I'm ready to go Lord if you're ready to take me."

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Dana Dedrick, Sioux Falls; Sunshine (Terry) Cady, Sioux Falls; grandchildren Natasha Dedrick, Ian Dedrick, San Francisco, CA; Eli Dedrick, Sioux Falls; Travis (Jess) Snyder, Sioux Falls; Justin (Aleasha) Snyder, Sioux Falls; great-grandchildren Sienna, Alivia, Carter and Bennett Snyder, Sioux Falls and step-grandchildren Angie (Jason) Blosmo, Galva, IA and their children Connor, McKenzie and Drew; and Sarah (Neal) Murphy and their kids Sloane and Ava.

MarJean was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and youngest son David.
