Marlyn Eldon Vietor, 92, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on Sunday, October 26, 2025.

A memorial service will be held at 1:00 pm Monday, November 3, 2025 at First United Methodist Church, 401 S. Spring Ave, Sioux Falls, SD.

Marlyn Eldon Vietor was born on June 24, 1933 on the family farm near Davis, SD to Pete P. and Elsie (Otten) Vietor.  He attended rural schools through 8th grade and later went to live with his older brother. At the age of 17 Marlyn joined the US Army and went to Germany.  Upon his return, he moved to Sioux Falls and began working at Lumberman's Supply Co.

On September 3, 1954 he married Mary Moter after meeting her at the Wall Lake Roller Rink.  In 1955, they welcomed their son, Kenneth Marlyn. After working a variety of jobs, Marlyn began his career position at H.S. Price Rusco Company where he worked for the next twenty-five years. During this time Marlyn bought, remodeled and sold rental properties and oversaw the building and maintenance of Ken's six-cylinder race car. The family also enjoyed many years at their Lake Madison cabin that had been a project of Marlyn's as well as travel to many places together and with friends.

Marlyn was always a very handy man, capable of fixing or building most anything.  He helped friends and family whenever he could.  This ability carried thru to his further ownership of several rental houses and apartments with Ken in later years but was most evident in the start-up and leadership of their company, Vista Windows and Doors.  Marlyn's skills and knowledge were invaluable in the production, shop management and oversight of the installation of many products that are still seen throughout Sioux Falls.

Marlyn's retirement years were enhanced by the arrival of his only grandson, Cole with whom he was fortunate to maintain a very close relationship.  He also enjoyed the companionship of several dogs.  After losing Mary in October, 2015 and Ken in October, 2021, he lived independently until his death.

Grateful for having shared his life are his grandson, Cole (Sarah Lattouf) of San Clemente, CA and daughter-in-law, Sandra Vietor of Sioux Falls, nephews, nieces and cousins.  He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, his son, Ken, his parents, Pete P. and Elsie Vietor, in-laws, Elmo and Luella Moter and two brothers Luverne (Doris) and Wayne (Arlis) Vietor.
