Obituary

Mary Ann Quinn Egan, a resident of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2025, surrounded by family at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls.  She was 93.

The Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, April 15, 2025, at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1501 W. 26th Street, with burial at St. Michael Catholic Cemetery. The visitation will be from 5:00 to 7:00 pm, Monday, April 14, at Miller Southside Chapel, 7400 S. Minnesota Avenue, with a scripture service starting at 6:00 pm.

Mary Ann, daughter of Esther (Jude) and Ronald Quinn, was born on June 15, 1931, in Red Wing, Minnesota. At the age of four, she and her family moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota.

Mary Ann graduated from West High School in Minneapolis in 1949 and graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1953, earning a Bachelor of Science in Education. She taught in the Minneapolis School System from 1953 to 1955. On July 3, 1954, Mary Ann married Thomas R. Egan at Incarnation Church in Minneapolis.

In 1965, the Egans moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where Mary Ann taught at Lowell Elementary School from 1976 to 1995. The Egans relocated to Bella Vista, Arkansas, in 1998 and returned to Sioux Falls in 2003.

Mary Ann was a member of Christ the King Catholic Church; past member of the Alpha Phi Sorority, past member of Alpha Delta Kappa Educational Sorority, PEO, Ollie, the Christ the King Choir, South Dakota Education Association, and the Sioux Falls Retired Teachers Association.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas R. Egan; a son, Michael Patrick; her parents; her brother, John R. Quinn, and sister-in-law, Joyce Quinn.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Debbie (Rich) Vining, Susan (Denny) Heiberger, John (Jody) Egan, Mary T. (Wally) Grogan, Sarah Egan; Ann O'Toole; Jane (Gary) Noble; grandchildren, Dan Vining, Kelly (Chris) Vining, Sarah (Tom) deWit, Johnny (Sarah) Vining, Tommy (Taylor) Vining, Gregg (Stacia) Engler, Curtis (Kelly) Egan, David Egan, John Heiberger, Jamie (Clinton) Heyer, Sheila (David) Diercks, Kerry (Tyler) Bergh, Katie (Christian) O'Toole; fourteen great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the First Tee of SD or to the Bishop O'Gorman Tuition Assistance Program.
