Mavis Larson Carl was born November 4, 1937 at Moe Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD to Arne T. and Hilma G (Hanger) Larson.  She grew up in Sioux Falls near Augustana College. Mavis was a charter member of Our Savior's Lutheran Church along with her parents and siblings.   She attended Mark Twain Grade School and graduated from Washington High School in 1955.    Upon graduation she went to work for Union Bank and Trust from 1955 to 1957.

On February 3, 1957 Mavis was united in marriage to Ron Carl at Our Savior's Lutheran Church.   They moved to the west coast, living in Bremerton, WA and Long Beach, CA while Ron was in the Navy.

In 1959 Mavis and Ron returned to Sioux Falls.  Mavis started working for Northwestern National Bank where she worked either full or part time at many different positions and retired from Norwest Bank in 1999.

Mavis joined with 3 partners in opening Antiques on 18th St. in 1997.  She semi-retired from the antique business in 2009.

After retiring she spent most winters with her niece, Michelle (Kevin) Scherer and her family in Plano, TX.  While in the antique business she spent her time on the road and in the Dallas area buying up antiques and collectibles for her shop.   She also took numerous road trips in her favorite car, her red Scion XB.

Mavis enjoyed listening to books on tape as she traveled. She cheered for the Vikings and watched tennis on TV.  Her favorite hobby was crocheting many hats, scarves and ponchos for friends and relatives.   She was also an avid reader of mysteries, completed crossword puzzles and loved to do crafts especially with her grandchildren.   Mavis maintained a strong connection with her 1955 high school classmates.  For 10 years, Mavis loved living in the Frank building above Queen City Bakery.  She was a frequent customer and you could often see her with a cup of coffee, a sweet treat and the NY Times.

Survivors include her son Michael (Camille) Carl, Billings, MT, and  daughter, Linda Harty, Sioux Falls, 8 grandchildren: Matthew Carl, Joshua (Kelsey) Carl, Chelsea (Ashley) Carl, Sam Carl, Melissa (Michael) Wolf, Dylan Harty, Alexis Harty, and Devin Harty,  3  great-grandchildren:  Emma,  Effie, and Adelynne, and many nieces and nephew, one brother,  Dale (Nadine) Larson, Lake Poinsett, and sister-in-law Donna  Larson.
