Merle Klinkenborg, 66, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, was born in Rock Rapids, Iowa, on July 9, 1958, and passed away peacefully on May 7, 2025, at Ava's House in Sioux Falls.
Merle graduated from Central Lyon in Rock Rapids, and continued his education at Northwest Iowa Community College, Kilian College and Southwest Minnesota State University. His career as an accountant took him from Wells Accounting and Taxes in Rock Rapids, to Leland Rath PC in Larchwood, and the last 23 years of his career at Intek, Sioux Falls.
Merle will be remembered for his thoughtful precision and his commitment to being prepared and on time. A devoted Disney enthusiast, he found joy in his many trips to Walt Disney World, always ensuring his family could embrace the magic through his careful planning.
Merle also possessed a playful spirit and a sense of humor. But at his core he was deeply caring. He quietly and consistently looked out for others, ensuring their well-being often without them even aware. These unspoken acts of kindness were a true testament to his devotion to family and friends.
He is survived by his wife Kae, children Kellyn and Jared, brothers Davis, Randy, Jerry, and Tom(Audra), Sister-in-Laws Mary Klinkenborg, Pat Merritt, and Beth Merritt Miller(Martin), Brother-in-Laws Larry Merritt(Marcia) and Ron Ohling (Sonia) and many nieces and nephews.
Merle was proceeded in death by his parents Esther and Everon Klinkenborg, brother Myron, sister Donna Klinkenborg Ohling, in-laws Lois and Clarence Merritt, niece Melanie Klinkenborg and nephew Jason Merritt.
Visitation with the family present will be at 10:00 a.m. with a funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on May 13, 2025, at First Presbyterian Church, 2300 S West Ave., Sioux Falls, with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. At Merle's request please dress casually and baseball caps are welcomed. The service will be live-streamed at https://www.fpcsiouxfalls.org/sunday-worship
In lieu of flowers memorials can be directed to the First Presbyterian Church Worship Live Streaming Fund, or the Ava's House.
