Merlyn John
Wyant
May 7, 1962 — Jul 7, 2025
Irene
Merlyn John Wyant, loving husband, father and grandfather passed away on Monday July 7, 2025, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota at the age of 63.
Merlyn was born on May 7, 1962 to Merl and Doris (Boekhoff) Wyant in Sioux Falls where he grew up in what was then a small township just outside of Sioux Falls. He attended Sioux Falls public schools. Merlyn then went on to study at Southeast Technical Institute where he earned his Associate Degree in Electronic Technology.
On May 1, 1981, Merlyn married his childhood sweetheart, Pam Jepp in Sioux Falls. The couple had two children, Aaron and Nichole. Together they enjoyed camping, hiking, fishing and cross-country road trips. They moved to their current residence in Irene, SD in 1995.
Merlyn loved the outdoors. He was an avid fisherman and a pheasant and waterfowl hunter. He was a stargazer, often staring up at the sky during a campfire or staying up until the wee hours of morning watching meteor showers. A very patriotic man, Merlyn's favorite holiday was the 4th of July, and he would light up the Irene neighborhood with a fantastic firework display every year. Merlyn also had a passion for Yamaha motorcycles. Merlyn enjoyed rock music, and he set up his speaker system to listen loudly to his favorite bands and shake the house with booming bass lines.
Grateful to have shared Merlyn's life with him are his children, Aaron (Trish) Wyant and Nichole (Curt Weideman) Gulbrandson both of Sioux Falls, SD; his grandchildren, Nevaeh, Aden, Loralei, Hailie, and Ryder, and Logan, Jacob, Kaylee, Colton, and Jaxxon; and who was like another son to him, Adam Weideman.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Pam Wyant; his grandson, Austin Wyant; his parents, Merl and Doris Wyant; and his sisters, Jude Zaros, Sharon Mace, and Sandra Fischer.
A Celebration of Life memorial for family and friends will be held at a future date and time to be determined. Likely outside on the 4th of July accompanied with a big firework display!
