Michael Thomas Sandstrom, 54, passed away on Thursday, October 2, 2025.

Visitation with the family present will begin at 5:00 pm on Thursday, October 9, 2025 at Miller Funeral Home, Downtown location, 507 S. Main Ave, Sioux Falls, SD, 57104. A memorial service will follow at 6:00 pm.

Burial will be the following day, Friday, October 10, at 10:00 am at Woodlawn Cemetery, 2001 S. Cliff Ave, Sioux Falls, SD.

Mike was born on September 5, 1971, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Donna Sandstrom. He was raised in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School in 1990. During his time there, Mike was a senior class officer and one of the commencement speakers, delivering a message titled "Ideas to Live By." He was a member of the National Honor Society, a Presidential Academic Fitness Award recipient, and earned a Regents Scholar Diploma. Mike participated in theater and oral interpretation, sang in the concert choir, and was part of the vocal group "The Edition." He was also active in Boy Scouts and proudly achieved the rank of Eagle Scout in 1989.

Throughout his life, Mike worked in a variety of roles. He spent several years at Gigglebees, where he enjoyed operating "Wilbur the Coyote." He also worked as a residential advisor at West Farm and as a night auditor with Country Inn and Suites. Most recently, Mike was employed at Camille's Café, where he served in many roles and was appreciated for his dedication and friendly nature. When his health began to decline, he was no longer able to continue working, but he remained connected with those he had worked alongside.

Outside of work, Mike was a devoted Minnesota Vikings fan and cherished the opportunity to attend a game for his 50th birthday, a gift from his aunt and uncle, Dava and Rich Lund. He also loved spending time outdoors, especially on family trips to the Black Hills, where he enjoyed driving the Custer State Park wildlife loop and spotting elk, deer, and prairie dogs. Mike shared a lifelong love of animals with his mother, often bringing home strays to surprise her.

Mike had a natural talent for computers and technology, often building and customizing his own systems.

Grateful for having shared his life are his aunt and uncle, Dava Sandstrom-Lund and Rich Lund, along with many cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by his mother, Donna Sandstrom; grandmother, Dorothy Berg; and uncle, David Sandstrom.
