Obituary

Mona Rae Genzlinger Dickhaut, age 82, passed away on March 21st, 2026 at Ava's House in Sioux Falls, SD.

Visitation will begin at 9:00 am with the Funeral Service at 10:00 am Friday, March 27, 2026 at Resurrection Lutheran Church, 5500 W. 26th St., Sioux Falls, SD.

Burial to take place at 3:00 pm on Friday, March 27, 2026 at the Winner City Cemetery, Winner, SD.

Mona was born on February 10th, 1944 to Gordon and Geraldine (Callies) Genzlinger on the family farm southeast of Howard, South Dakota. She grew up with brothers Winston and Greg and her sister, Janeen.

Growing up, she was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Howard, where she was also baptized, confirmed and married. She attended Howard public and graduated from Howard High School in 1962.  She attended General Beadle College in Madison, SD. The college is now Dakota State University. She received her teaching certificate and moved to Roscoe, SD where she taught the 5th grade. While living in Roscoe, she met the love of her life, Leonard Dickhaut. They were married June 15th, 1966. They were married for 50 ½ years before Leonard passed away January 4th, 2017.  Mona and Lenoard raised 3 children: Joel, Angela and Wade, who all currently reside in Sioux Falls, SD.

The family moved to Winner, SD in 1976.  Mona was a stay at home mother and was involved in her kid's school and church activities. She was an active member of Christ Lutheran Church in Winner.  She served as an officer in Lutheran Women's Missionary League (LWML) for 20 years and taught Sunday and Bible school.   She moved to Sioux Falls in 2020. Mona enjoyed baking and cooking, writing letters (especially Christmas cards), reading, watching Hallmark Christmas movies and needlework.  She was always cheering on her favorite sports teams: the Minnesota Twins, Kansas Jayhawks, Winner Warriors and the Howard Tigers.

Mona is survived by her children Joel, Angie and Wade; sister-in-law Pat Genzlinger and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband Leonard, parents Gordon and Geraldine (Jerry) Genzlinger, both sets of grandparents, brothers Winston and Greg Genzlinger, sister Janeen Genzlinger and sister-in-law Carolyn Genzlinger, nephew Adam Genzlinger and many uncles, aunts and cousins.
