Morris "Morry" Paulsen passed away on July 10th, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family. He was a devoted husband, father, papa, veteran, and friend. He leaves behind a legacy of kindness, service, and generosity that will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

Morry was born on July 17, 1948, in Watertown, South Dakota, to Earl and Ilene Paulsen. He was raised on the family farm near Hazel, South Dakota, where he developed the strong work ethic, humility, and values that would define his life. He attended South Dakota State University before answering the call to serve his country by joining the United States Army.

Morry proudly served in the United States Army as a helicopter pilot for 24 years, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His military career was one of honor, leadership, and dedication, and he remained immensely proud of his service throughout his life. He earned his master's degree in computer analysis. After retiring from the Army, he continued his career in various technology companies before eventually retiring to Arizona.

Above all else, Morry was devoted to his family. He shared nearly 53 wonderful years of marriage with the love of his life, Karen. Together they built a life centered on love, adventure, and unwavering support for one another. He was a proud father to Scott Paulsen (Beth), Ryan Paulsen, and Kelsey Isaacson (Chris), and his greatest joy came from being "Papa" to his five beloved grandchildren: Lilly, Lainy, Brooks, Maisyn, and Piper.

Morry was preceded in death by his parents, Earl and Ilene Paulsen. He is survived by his beloved wife, Karen, his children, grandchildren, and his sister, Earlene Mischke (Norman), and many extended family members and dear friends.

Morry never knew a stranger and was known by so many as "just the best guy." His kindness, generosity, quiet strength, and willingness to help others left a lasting impression on everyone he met. He loved golfing, biking, and spending time outdoors, but nothing brought him greater happiness than being with his family. If you were fortunate enough to know Morry, you knew what it felt like to be welcomed, encouraged, and cared for. He made people feel like family, whether you had known him for a lifetime or had just met. His greatest legacy is not only the family he loved so deeply, but the countless lives made better simply by knowing him. He will be tremendously missed.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations, in Morry's honor, to the Wounded Warriors Project or Tunnels to Towers Foundation supporting families and members of the military community.

A private military service for family will be held on Friday, July 17th, at 3:00 pm at the Southside Miller Funeral Home. A gathering of family and friends will be held at the home of Karen and Morry Paulsen on Saturday, July 18th from 5:30-7:30 pm.
