Myra A. Bornitz, age 97, passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2025 at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, August 24, 2025 at Miller Funeral Home – Westside Chapel (6200 W. 41st St., Sioux Falls, SD) with family present for visitation one hour prior. Visitation will resume following services until 4:00 pm. Interment will take place at 9:00 am on Monday, August 25, 2025 at Hartford Cemetery.

Myra Overgard was born on January 12, 1928 to Charles and Edna (Nelson) Overgard in Hartford, South Dakota. Myra lived in Hartford her entire life before moving to Sioux Falls in January of 2020. She attended Hartford High School, graduating as valedictorian of the class of 1946.

Myra married the love of her life, Frank Bornitz, on October 6, 1946. The couple had three sons, Terry, Timothy, and Todd. Ever devoted to each other, Myra and Frank did everything together until his passing on March 26, 2007.

Myra first worked at the Hartford Post Office for 6 years. She then began her career of 33 years as a bank clerk at the Community Bank in Hartford, which later changed to Western Bank. Myra retired from her position as head clerk in 1996. She was the favorite clerk of many, as she took her time helping every person that came to her desk. Myra valued being involved in her community and worked for the election board for 25 years and volunteered at polling sites for general elections. She also served on the school board, volunteered at West Central School and at Leisure Living, and was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Faith was a cornerstone of Myra's life and she was a member of Hartford United Methodist Church. Even after moving to Sunnycrest Village, she still attended church every Sunday with a group of other residents. She led her life with genuine care for others, ensuring that the needs of the people that she loved were met to the best of her abilities. Myra made friends easily and was loved by many. Ever the social butterfly, she never wanted to sit still and sought out many ways to stay active like meeting with friends to play cards or bingo and playing dominoes with her friends at Sunnycrest. Myra treasured time with her family and looked forward to going out for breakfast with them every Saturday. When she wasn't out and about, Myra enjoyed reading in her downtime.

Myra was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and friend to all, and she will be missed immeasurably.

Grateful to have shared Myra's life with her are her sons, Terry (Linda) Bornitz of Sioux Falls, SD, Timothy (Claudia) Bornitz of Ft. Worth, TX, and Todd (Lana) Bornitz of Sioux Falls, SD; her grandchildren, Michael (Leigh) Bornitz of Ft. Worth, Tx, Nicole (Travis) Aarbo of Sioux Falls, SD, Ryan (Erin) Bornitz of Sioux Falls, SD, Lindsay (Bryan) Bradford of Ft. Worth, TX, and Kiersten (Taylor) Johnson of Moorhead, MN; her great-grandchildren, Esten, Elsa, William, James, Libby, Rhodes, Dexson, Josephine, and Daphne; and numerous nieces and nephews. Frank and Myra were "adopted grandparents" to their young neighbor, Angela (Evert) Lucid and were always included in their family events.

Myra was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Bornitz; her parents, Charles and Edna Overgard; her mother- and father- in law, George and Bena Bornitz; her daughter-in-law, Pamela Bornitz; her sisters, Mayme Decker and Odell Rose; and her brothers, Dale and Kermit Overgard.
