Naomi Helga Sandlin passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, one week before her 98th birthday. The family will greet friends for visitation from 5:00 - 7:00 pm, Monday, July 20, 2026, at Miller Funeral Home - Downtown Chapel (507 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls), with a memorial service starting at 6:30 pm.

She was born on a farm by Mission Hill, SD, to Harry and Elizabeth Hanson on July 21, 1928. She was part of a family of three full sisters, Ruth Dittes and Elaine Hanson, and 20 step and half brothers and sisters.

She attended a country school one mile north of their home. When she was in seventh grade, she moved to Norris, SD. Her father was unable to farm any longer. She accepted Christ as her Savior in a revival at their school house when she was about ten.

When she finished grade school, she attended high school in three other towns and lived away from home except her senior year. She graduated from Valentine High School in Valentine, NE, in 1946.

When she reached eighteen that summer, she began working as a nursing assistant at the Valentine Hospital. After a couple of years, she transferred to Gordon, NE, to work in a small hospital. There she met Floyd Dickey. He was just discharged from the Navy Seabees. After dating for a couple of years, they married.

She worked at the Gordon Memorial Hospital and clinic until her son, Don, was born on April 6, 1954. When he was six weeks old, they moved to Scottsbluff, NE, for employment at an auto electric repair shop for Floyd.

She stayed home until Don was a year and a half, then went to work as a medical clinic assistant. When Don was four, they moved to Casper, WY, so Floyd could work for Auto Electric Equipment Company.

In the spring of 1959, their daughter, Lisa, was born on May 4 in Casper Memorial Hospital. When Lisa was three years old, Naomi went to work as a secretary; first for the general agent for State Farm Insurance and then for seven years as a real estate secretary at Security Bank and Trust.

They moved to Sioux Falls in 1967, where Floyd was employed by Locke Electric. She worked as an agency secretary for Security Mutual Insurance Company. In 1975, they bought an Assisted Living home in Valentine, NE, with room for fifteen residents.

Floyd passed away on January 20, 1982. She continued to operate the rest home in Valentine after Floyd died. In 1983, she met Rev. Calvin Sandlin from Rapid City, SD. A year later, on September 1, 1984, they were married at Valentine Baptist Church. They moved to Big Stone City, SD, in 1989 after phasing out the business. They bought and renovated a 100-year-old two-story house. They lived there thirteen years before selling it and moving to Sioux Falls. Calvin died in 2008.

She was blessed to spend the last years of her life enjoying time with family, friends, and neighbors. She also left a legacy of family numbering as large as the years she was alive. She was greatly loved by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces! She had a strong faith in her Lord Jesus Christ. She never missed an opportunity to talk to others about her Lord. She is dancing in Heaven with all 20 siblings, 2 husbands, and many other friends and relatives. In the same frame of mind as she was a giving person, she has donated her body to science.

Naomi is survived by her son, Donald Dickey (Donna); her daughter, M. Lisa Norberg (Stuart); her stepsons, Guy Sandlin (Leona) and Mike Sandlin (Peggy) and Barb Sandlin; grandchildren, Luke Rankin (Julie), Rebekah Hauert (Nicholas), and Samuel Norberg (Amber); great-grandchildren, Anna Rankin, Adeline Rankin, Adyson  Hauert, Asher Hauert, Nolan Hauert, Max Hauert, Sampson Norberg, Weston Norberg, and Flynn Norberg. She is also survived by many friends and other relatives.
