Nicholas "Papa Nick" West, 70, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2026, leaving behind a lifetime of love, laughter, and cherished memories.

Born on Christmas Day in Edinburgh, Scotland, in 1955 to Eugene West and Lorraine West (Wittrock), Nick carried a strong spirit and a kind heart throughout his life. He eventually made his home in Sioux Falls, where he built a life centered on family, hard work, and the people he loved most.

On February 14, 1997, Valentine's Day, Nick married the love of his life, Kimberly West. Together they created a loving family that became the greatest joy of his life. He was a devoted husband and a proud father to his four daughters, Shannon, Holly, Jamie, and Zerina, and his son, Nicholas Jr. He was also a loving Papa to eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren, each of whom brought him endless happiness.

Nick is survived by his beloved wife, Kimberly; his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren; as well as his brother and sister, the surviving siblings of a family of six. Nick spent his younger years working on oil rigs off the coast of California before later building a career in construction. He was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family and was always willing to do whatever was needed to support those he loved.

When he wasn't working, Nick loved being outdoors with a fishing pole in his hand. Some of his favorite memories were made fishing alongside his brother Tom, whether on the rivers of South Dakota or in the waters off California and Mexico. Those quiet moments on the water were among his happiest.

To everyone who knew him, Nick was known for his strong will, calm nature, and unwavering devotion to his family. He had a silly sense of humor, loved sharing quirky jokes and unbelievable stories, and could always make those around him smile. No matter what life brought his way, he remained steady and dependable—the kind of man his family could always count on.

Above all else, Nick was a loving husband and father. His family was his greatest accomplishment, and becoming "Papa Nick" only added to the joy he carried in his heart. His kindness, strength, laughter, and unconditional love touched everyone who knew him.

Though he will be missed beyond words, the memories he created and the love he shared will live on in the hearts of his family and friends forever.
