Noel Olson, 92, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away peacefully at Sanford USD Medical Center on March 29, 2026.

Noel was born in July 1933 in Chicago, Illinois, to Chris and Pearl (Lassen) Lassen. She graduated from Taft High School in Chicago and went on to earn her degree in education from Michigan State University in 1955. She was united in marriage to Bob Goodbary in 1956, and together they had two sons, David and Richard. The couple later divorced in 1966.

Noel dedicated 25 years of her life to teaching elementary school in Michigan and California. She was deeply committed to her students and took great pride in helping each child achieve their best and build a strong foundation for life. She retired from teaching in 1989.

In 1976, Noel married Devon Olson. The couple made their home in Alameda, California, before moving in 1999 to the Rossmoor Retirement Community in Walnut Creek. There, Noel was an active member and volunteer in several organizations, including the Republican Club, Computer Club, Rossmoor Library Book Transfer Program, and a Bible study group. She also volunteered as a tutor at Berkeley Middle School.

Noel had a love for travel, and she and Devon enjoyed many adventures together throughout their retirement. Both were devoted fans of University of California athletics and attended numerous Cal Bears football and basketball games as longtime season ticket holders. Noel also found joy in reading, gardening, and, most importantly, spending time with her family and friends.

In late 2019, Noel and Devon relocated to Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Grateful for having shared her life are her husband, Devon Olson; and her five grandchildren, Elizabeth, Connor, Dylan, Ryan, and Brooke. She was preceded in death by her two sons, David Goodbary (Robin) and Richard Goodbary (Melinda).

In accordance with Noel's wishes, no memorial services will be held.
