Norman Grosz age 81 died Tuesday, August 4, 2010. Funeral services will be 1:00 pm Monday August 9th at Zion Lutheran Church. The family will greet friends from 5-7:00 pm Sunday at Miller Funeral Home 13th & Main Avenue.
Norman Curtis Grosz, son of Emanuel and Flossie Grosz, was born March 13, 1929 in Olivet, SD, and grew up in that area. He played saxophone in the high school band and graduated from Scotland High. Norman then attended Nettleton College where he obtained his business degree.
Norman worked with First National bank for 25 years and later for Kriens Construction. He also operated Grosz's Insulation.
In November of 1973, Norman met the love of his life Sharron at a sing along piano bar in Omaha, NE. While he was whistling to the music, Sharron had made the remark that someone should give that guy some bird seed. He then joined them where they were sitting and offered to buy her breakfast. They spent endless nights talking on the phone until the wee hours of the morning. They would write each other letters and send cards to each other, keeping Hallmark in business. Norman would have a dozen red roses delivered to her each trip he made back to Sioux Falls. He also got her to love and appreciate Black Hills Gold Jewelry. Who could not have fallen in LOVE with a guy like that? They soon married on August 24, 1974. Now can you imagine a man who's daughters were out of high school, falling in love with a gal with five children ranging from 4 to 12 years old. Well, Norm did and he always referred to the children as "ours".
Besides raising their family they also raised two grandchildren. He would often talk about how he went into the delivery room with two of their daughters and granddaughter standing by their side while they delivered.
Last year, Sharron had surprised him on their 35th wedding anniversary with the renewing of their marriage vows. First, she took him to Wal-Mart to have their pictures taken, next, she drove him to Zion Lutheran Church (he still did not have a clue what she had planned) where their vows were renewed, and afterwards he told her, "You stinker you."
Grateful for having shared his life are his wife Sharron, daughters and son, June (Bob) Hawley, Rocco, Alicia, and Toni Ferrucci, Shirley (Don) Arvin, and Sally (Jon) Wittkamp. Nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and brother, Morris (Mavis) Grosz and Nephew
Preceded him in death, his parents, daughter, and great grandson.
