Peggy Goerhing, 59, of Hartford, SD, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Sunday, October 12, 2025, at her home.

Visitation with family present will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m., with a prayer service beginning at 6:00 p.m., on Thursday, October 23, 2025, at the Miller Westside Chapel, 6200 West 41st Street, Sioux Falls. A Celebration of Life will follow on Friday, October 24, 2025, from 5:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Big J's Roadhouse in Humboldt, SD.

Peggy was born on October 7, 1966, to Ernie and Helen (Harnack) Hoefert in Sioux Falls, SD. She was baptized on February 28, 1967, and confirmed on April 12, 1981, at Christ Lutheran Church in Hartford. Peggy later became a member of The Renner Lutheran Church in 2002. She attended West Central High School, graduating in 1984, and later earned her associate degree in computer programming from Lake Area VoTech in Watertown in 1985.

Peggy met the love of her life, Corey Goehring, in 1987 at the races, where they were supporting friends Leland Goehring and Dan Jensen. In 1995, they bought their farm south of Hartford—a dream come true for Peggy, who filled it with animals and love. The couple shared countless adventures and trail rides with their horses, the most memorable being a trip to Devil's Tower with friends.

Peggy's lifelong dream of motherhood came true when she gave birth to her son, Kody, on August 7, 2003. From that moment on, her world revolved around him. When Kody turned nine, they sold the horses and began raising sheep so he could pursue livestock showing. Peggy was always by his side—whether helping in the barn during lambing season, attending his sporting events, or traveling across the country for livestock shows. One of her proudest memories was watching Kody compete at the North American International Livestock Exposition in Louisville, Kentucky. Even though she wasn't fond of his figure-eight racing, Peggy never failed to show up and cheer him on. Peg especially loved the Turner County Fair. She considered those 4 days the best of August because they kicked off the show season and family camping trips.

On May 12, 2025, Peggy and Corey were united in marriage at the Avera Chapel, a celebration of their lifelong love and commitment.

Professionally, Peggy began her career at Citibank in Sioux Falls before joining Northwestern Mutual in 1997. In 2015, she began working at Midwest Employee Benefits, where she remained until her planned retirement.

In March 2025, Peggy was diagnosed with glioblastoma brain cancer. She faced her illness with courage and grace, enduring surgery, chemotherapy, radiation, and rehabilitation with unwavering strength and faith.

Peggy is survived by her loving husband, Corey Goehring; her son, Kody (Avery) Goehring, of Hartford; brother-in-law Leland (Lori) and their daughter, Hannah Goehring; brothers, Roy (Pam) and their children, John and Jamie Hoefert; Kerry (Gail) and their sons, Adam (Miranda) and Aaron (Ashley); sister, Tammy (Kelley) Bents and her daughters, Amy (Joe) and Jodi (Will); and brother, Todd and his children, Kaitlynn (Joe), Chrissy (Joshua), Josh (Kristen), and Brianna.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Ernie and Helen Hoefert; father-in-law, LeRoy (Lucille) Goehring; nephews, Ben Goehring and Andrew Hoefert; and siblings-in-law, Craig, Curtis, Lisa, Laurie, and Berdel.

Peggy will be remembered for her warm heart, her deep love for her family, and her strength through every season of life.
