Ralph "Jake" Jakobsen, 79, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on June 13, 2026, surrounded by the love of family and friends.

Jake was born on November 19, 1946, in Staten Island, New York, to Johan and Harriet (Hanssen) Jakobsen. A cement mason by trade, he spent many years in construction, taking pride in building things that would stand the test of time.

Known for his strong work ethic, generous spirit, and willingness to help others, Jake rarely sat still. Whether he was skiing, mountain biking, working on a home project, building a deck or fence, or helping a friend with a repair, he found joy in creating, fixing, and improving things. He believed helping others in this way was a gift he had been given and shared that gift freely.

One of the accomplishments he was most proud of was his commitment to sobriety. On June 12, 2026, just one day before his passing, Jake celebrated 50 years of sobriety. Through Alcoholics Anonymous, he found purpose in supporting others on their recovery journeys and quietly touched countless lives through his encouragement, friendship, and example.

Jake cherished the relationships he built throughout his life. He remained close friends with Mike and Sharon Manuel and their family for over 60 years, a friendship that began in college and endured through every season of life. He also shared a special bond with Karen Jensen, his friend and housemate of 34 years. Along with his family, these cherished friends were a constant source of companionship, support, and love. Jakes life was enriched by both the family he was born into and the family he chose along the way.

More than anything, Jake cherished time spent with those he loved. He leaves behind his children, Eric Bliefernich, John (Jane) Jakobsen, and Mary Beth (Tom) Fishback; his grandchildren, Jadyn Jakobsen, Joselyn "Jo" Jakobsen, Mae Fishback, and Oliver Fishback; his siblings, Diane Fauske and John Jakobsen; and many dear friends whose lives were enriched by knowing him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Johan and Harriet Jakobsen, and his sister, Ruth Ann Jakobsen.

In keeping with Jake's wishes, no formal funeral services will be held. His family will honor his life privately, remembering a hardworking man whose greatest legacy was the kindness, generosity, and steady presence he shared with others.
