Richard "Rick" A. Jepson, of Hills, Minnesota, passed away on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Rick was 61 years old.
Born on December 29, 1964, Richard Allan Jepson was the son of Allan and Sandra (Reeves) Jepson in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was raised in Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School in 1982.
Rick worked as a garage door installer and technician for Overhead Garage Door for nearly 20 years. He later worked at Showplace Cabinetry in Harrisburg, where he built cabinets for several years before retiring in 2022.
Rick was blessed with two children from a previous marriage, Rose and Colman. On November 10, 2008, he married Mavis "Joan" Straw at his mother's house in Renner, South Dakota. The couple lived in Tucson, Arizona, until moving to Hills, Minnesota, in 2013.
Rick was an enthusiastic Minnesota Vikings fan who enjoyed watching Fox News. He had a particular fondness for TV shows and movies, especially comedies. Country music was another passion of his, particularly songs by Tim McGraw. Rick adored his two rescued dogs, Polly Ester and Dakota, and loved taking them for walks around the lake and to Hills Park, where they could run and play. Nature held great significance for Rick, and he enjoyed fishing as a relaxing pastime.
Those who knew Rick best fondly remembered his ability to tell jokes and his sarcastic sense of humor. He cherished talking on the phone with family and friends.
Rick is survived by his wife, Joan Jepson, of Hills, Minnesota; his daughter, Rose (Corey Allen) Jepson, of New Carlisle, Ohio; his son, Colman Jepson, of Dayton, Ohio; his stepson, Jason Paulson, of Hills, Minnesota; his stepdaughter, Jessica Morningstar, of Dayton, Ohio; and five grandchildren: Lucas Jepson, Damon Davis, Danica Davis, David Davis, and Darek Davis. He is also survived by his brother, Gordon (Toni) Jepson, of Sioux Falls; his half-brother, Brad (Michelle) Jepson, of Spooner, Wisconsin; his stepsister, Lori (Louis) DeVries, of Birchwood, Wisconsin; and several nieces and nephews, including Emma and Hunter Smith, Chelsie Peltiere, Chance Jepson, Andie Elder, and Grace Jepson.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, Allan Jepson and Sandra Behnke; his stepfather, Ronald Smith; and his brother, Billy Smith.
A memorial service will take place at 10:00 AM on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Miller Funeral Home, located at 507 S. Main Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57104. Rick will be laid to rest at St. Olaf Cemetery in Baltic, South Dakota.
