Dolly
Aug 18, 1941 — Jan 31, 2025
Sioux Falls
Richard Emmett Dolly, age 83, passed away on January 31, 2025, at Avera Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD. Born on August 18, 1941, Richard was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, deeply cherished by his family and community.
Services to honor Richard's life will include a viewing on Wednesday, February 5, 2025, from 5-7 p.m., and a funeral service on Thursday, February 6, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., followed by a light luncheon, both at Miller West Funeral Services, 6200 W. 41st St., Sioux Falls, SD 57106. Burial will take place on Friday, February 7, 2025, at 1 p.m. at Presho Cemetery, 1 Birch Ave., Presho, SD.
Richard began his career at George Anderson Gas Co. in Presho, SD, before dedicating 35 years to Caterpillar Tractor Company in Peoria, IL, including a significant stint of 2 1/2 years in Brussels, Belgium. His professional life was marked by commitment and excellence, contributing significantly to his field.
A man of many interests, Richard was profoundly involved in music and community services. In his younger years, he was a member of the CATS singing group in Presho, SD, and played various instruments, including the piano, saxophone, and accordion. He was also active in the Jaycee's in Roanoke, IL, and engaged in park board activities. Later in life, he managed the Presho, SD alumni information on Facebook and enjoyed exploring the digital world through his computer.
Richard was a member of the Presho Methodist Church and, later on, Roanoke Methodist Church, where he participated in the church choir.
Richard leaves behind a loving family: his wife of 64 years, Sylvia S. Dolly; children, Richard J. Dolly (Shelli), Robin L. Livernois (David), and Ronald R. Dolly (Josephine); siblings, Raymond Dolly (Essy), Virginia Carstensen (Dick), and Sandi Smith (Roger). He was also a proud grandfather to Christopher (Mallory), Chelsea (Travis), Amanda, Lauren (Jake), Michael, and Megan (Ross), and a great-grandfather to Ellie, Tovah, Saylor, Halston, Tatum, Reagan, and Lux.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin and Lois Dolly, and his grandson, Matthew Dolly.
Richard E. Dolly (Grampa) was stubborn but persuadable when you brought out a deck of cards, teaching everyone his witty one-liners that will continue on. He was ornery yet had a soft spot when his family was near. We will cherish all of the memories we shared with him.
