Richard (Dick) Barrett, age 84, passed away on Thursday, March 13, 2025, at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. A loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend, Dick will be remembered for his warmth, generosity, and the deep love he shared with his family and community.

Visitation will be held from 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm on Tuesday, March 18, 2025, at Miller Funeral Home – Southside Chapel (7400 S. Minnesota Ave, Sioux Falls, SD). A funeral service will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church (5500 E. 57th St. Sioux Falls, SD).

Dick was born and raised in Sioux Falls, SD. He worked for many years as a store and district manager for various grocery stores, including Sunshine Foods. Later in his career, he served as a regional manager for the South Dakota Lottery Office.

One of Dick's greatest passions was camping, and he was affectionately known as the "mayor" of the campground at Round Lake. He enjoyed a variety of hobbies, including yardwork, dancing, and cheering for the Minnesota Vikings. He also spent his winters in Texas, where he could enjoy the warm weather and create cherished memories. Dick had a love for game shows and, above all, cherished time spent with his children and grandchildren.

Dick was married to Yvonne Henning in 1961, and together they had two children, Terri and Jim. In 1988, he married Kathy Smith, blending their families and sharing her children as his own.

He is survived by his loving wife, Kathy Barrett; his sister, Jane (Bob) Schavee; daughter, Terri (Tony Kocak) Meyer; son, Jim (Joan) Barrett; stepchildren, Mari Dysart, Lori Stern, Gail (Eric) Johansen, Jim (Lollene) Schoeberl, and Stacey (Jeff) Ostlund; son in law, Donovan Small; 16 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Marguerite Barrett, his brother, Tom Barrett, and step daughter Teresa Small.

Dick's memory will be forever cherished by his family and all who knew him. His legacy of love, laughter, and dedication will live on in the hearts of those who were fortunate enough to be part of his life.
