Richard "Rick" Miller, 80, of Sioux Falls, SD passed away on Wednesday, August 6, 2025 at his home surrounded with love by his family and close friends.
Funeral Mass will be 10:30 am Tuesday, August 12, at St. Michael Parish, 1600 S. Marion Road, Sioux Falls, SD with burial next to his wife, Marlene, at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls, SD.
Visitation with the family present to greet friends will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm with a 6:30 pm Wake Service on Monday, August 11, at Miller Funeral Home Westside Chapel, 6200 W. 41st Street, Sioux Falls, SD.
Richard John Miller was born February, 13, 1945 in San Francisco, CA to Henry and Helen (Gefre) Miller. He grew up in Aberdeen, SD where he received his education. In 1966, he enlisted in the United States Army and served as an officer in the Korean Demilitarized Zone. Upon returning from active duty, he joined the Army Reserves and completed his BA degree in Business Administration at Northern State College in Aberdeen, SD.
On August, 20th, 1970, he was united in marriage with Marlene Malsam in Hosmer, SD. Throughout their married life, Rick and Marlene lived in Aberdeen, Watertown, Sioux Falls, and Chamberlain before returning to Sioux Falls, in 1985. They were married for 45 years until her death in 2016.
Rick enjoyed a long career in banking, retiring from CorTrust Bank in 2019. He proudly served in the United States Army Reserve until he retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 2005 after 39 years of service.
Throughout his life, Rick enjoyed hunting with his father, brother, and children. In his later years, he especially enjoyed fishing with all of his grandchildren.
Grateful for having shared his life are his son, Scott Miller, Jasper, MN; daughters Kim Mettler (Dave), Amanda Benson (Matt) and Renee Miller, all of Sioux Falls, SD; his grandchildren , Makaylah Miller, Carson and Cole Mettler, and Ethan and Amollia Benson. He is also survived by his brother Jim Miller (Paula), Spirit Lake, IA; special friend, Diane Guthmiller, Yankton, SD; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends. Rick is preceded in death by his wife, Marlene, and parents Henry and Helen Miller.
