Rick Duaine “Rotten” Winters, 68, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, passed away on September 18, 2026.

Rick was born on May 24, 1958, to Daryl and Mary Ann (Fallon) Winters. He was a beloved son, father, grandfather, brother, and friend whose presence brought energy, laughter, and plenty of personality wherever he went. Rick had a way of making himself known. He could make people laugh, give them a hard time, or play the tough guy – and those who loved him wouldn’t have wanted him any other way.

Rick began his working life at a lumber yard in Sioux Falls. Before long, he discovered a passion for cooking and decided to make it his career. He went on to cook at the Ramkota, the First Edition, and Red Lobster. He also worked for many years as a stagehand, bringing his own determination and character to everything he did.

For Rick, though, few things compared to his love of motorcycles. He started out riding a Triumph and eventually found his way to the Harley-Davidson he loved so much. His Harley was more than a motorcycle - it was a source of pride, freedom, conversation, and countless memories. Rick talked about it, worked on it, rode it, and could keep a conversation going about it for as long as anyone was willing to listen.

Rick was also known by his biker name, “Rotten,” and there was a reason for it. He was always pulling something on somebody, giving someone a hard time, or pretending to be the toughest guy in the room. Beneath the teasing and tough exterior was a man with a memorable spirit and a heart that touched the lives of the people around him. You never quite knew what Rick might say or do next, but you could be sure it would leave an impression.

Rick is survived by his children, Daryl, Cole, and Dominique; his grandchildren, Tarrah, Kashton, and Emery; and his siblings, Jim Winters, Jeff (Sue) Winters, Randy Winters, Denise Rierson (Winters), and Jo Winters, all of Sioux Falls.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Daryl and Mary Ann Winters.

Rick will be deeply missed and warmly remembered for his love of his children and grandchildren, for his passion for cooking, his years of service as a stagehand, his unmistakable personality, and his devotion to motorcycles – especially his Harley. He leaves behind stories, laughter, memories, and a lasting impression on everyone who knew him. There may be a few stories that are best shared privately, but they will be told with smiles and affection for years to come.

A celebration of Rick’s life will be held on October 3, 2026, from 1:00-4:00 p.m. at the Silver Moon Bar.
