Robert "Bob" Nelson, 77, beloved husband, father, grandpa, uncle, and friend, was sent to his eternal home on Sunday, November 30, 2025, at Sanford Care Center in Vermillion. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Tuesday, December 9, 2025, at Miller Funeral Home - Downtown Chapel, with family greeting friends for visitation one hour prior.

Bob was born on November 10, 1948, in Mitchell, SD, to parents Nida and Pete Nelson. He grew up across various towns in South Dakota.  Bob graduated from Armour High School and went on to serve in the US Navy. After his time in the service, he returned home and began working at the John Morrell packing plant. It was around this time that Bob met the love of his life, Joyce.  The two were married on July 12, 1969, at the Cathedral of St. Joseph in Sioux Falls.

Bob was a shining light in the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him.  His journey on earth was marked by love, humor, compassion, and his unwavering faith in God.  His passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, and countless others whose life was touched by him.

He was fondly known for his joking ways and ability to make everyone feel special.  He always made the time to help others. His legacy will live on forever, reminding us that no matter the hand we are dealt, to play it with a positive attitude and love in our hearts

Bob was a family man. Some of his greatest joys came from his daughters, Misty and Jessica. He created many memories with them, including numerous family vacations and fishing adventures.  He volunteered as a fastpitch softball coach and attended their various activities over the years. He will always be their greatest hero. He took an active role in the lives of his eight grandchildren, always quick with a joke, a hug, and of course, candy.

Bob was one of a kind and appreciated all that life gave him.  Even in his last months, he quickly made friends at the Care Center and became a favorite of the caregiving staff. He had strong values and was well-liked by everyone, mostly due to his positive attitude.

Grateful for having shared his life are his beloved wife, Joyce; daughters, Misty Grimsley and Jessica (Matthew) Perkins; grandchildren, Adam (BreAnna) Grimsley, Raina Grimsley, Elias Grimsley, Calister Grimsley, Sawyer Grimsley, River "Robert" Perkins, Wyld Perkins, and Rowdy Perkins; great-grandchildren, Jack Grimsley and Will Grimsley; sisters, Phyllis Perrin, Helen Tietz, Nida Anderson and Marlys Deming; as well as many nieces, nephews, other family and friends that held a special place in his heart

He is preceded in death by his parents, Nida Wells and Pete Nelson; brothers, Meredith Deming, John Deming, Walter Deming, Ben Nelson, Darrell Deming, Dwayne Deming; and sister, Melvina Christman.
