Robert Ray DeVries, 83, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, December 25, 2024, at Sanford USD Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 AM, Tuesday, December 31st at Peace Lutheran Church (5509 W. 41st St., Sioux Falls). The family will greet friends for visitation from 4:00 - 6:00 PM, Monday, December 30, 2024, at Miller Funeral Home's Westside Chapel (6200 W. 41st St., Sioux Falls).
Robert was born on August 1st, 1941 in Orange City, IA to Charles and Geraldine (Kleinhesselink) DeVries. He graduated from Beaver Creek High School in 1959. During high school, he was active in football, the yearbook annual staff, camera club, aviation club, and gun club. Following high school, he served in the US Army Reserve. Robert married the love of his life, Muriel Hagena, on July 19, 1966, at the Delaware Reformed Church of Lennox.
Robert and Muriel began their life together in Sioux Falls. Their journey of faith included Delaware Reformed Church, Sunnycrest United Methodist Church, and Chancellor Reformed Church. After living in Sioux Falls for many years, they relocated their family to rural Chancellor in 1989 until they moved back to Sioux Falls in 2008. Robert farmed near Chancellor for over 20 years. He also spent his working years employed by John Morrell Meat Packing Plant, Civil Defense Rescue Squad, Western Mall Security, Argus Leader, and Cimpl Packing Company.
Over the years, Robert enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and attending the many events of his seven grandchildren.
Grateful for sharing his life are his daughters, Tanya DeVries (David Corey) of Lenexa, KS, Tara (Patrick) Foley and their children, Alex, Aidan, and Anna of Sioux Falls, SD, Tandis (Gregory) Hoffman and their children, Grayson and Gabrielle of Rapid City, SD, Treva (Eric) Petersen and their children, Lauren and Laine of Hurley, SD; sister, Phyllis (Jay) Lunstra; sister-in-law, Pat DeVries; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Robert was preceded in death by his loving wife, Muriel DeVries; brother, Dave DeVries; and parents, Charles and Geraldine DeVries.
