Robert C
Feuerborn
Jul 3, 1932 — May 14, 2025
Sioux Falls
Robert "Bob" Feuerborn, age 92, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2025.
Bob was born on July 3, 1932, to Vincent H. and Mary J. (Weaver) Feuerborn in Craig, Colorado. His family settled on the farm on the Grand Mesa of Western Colorado in the late 1930s, and he graduated from Fruitvale High School. Robert continued his education, attending community college until he joined the U.S. Army, which took him to Europe.
After his honorable discharge from the U.S. Army, Bob continued his education and received a bachelor's degree in engineering from Colorado State University. From the 1960s to the 1970s, Bob worked as an aerospace engineer, designing, developing, and testing aircraft and spacecraft, including the Saturn rocket and the Bell X-2 "Starbuster" rocket plane.
After many years of courtship, Bob married the love of his life, Lela, in Los Angeles, California, on July 20, 1968. The couple resided in California and were blessed with a son, Vincent. In 1972, the family relocated to Littleton, Colorado, where they welcomed their second son, Mark. In 1976, they relocated to Rapid City, where they finally settled in Sioux Falls in 1981. Known for his early mornings at "Mr Donut", Bob's apple fritters were the favorite of many for over 10 years. After Mr Donut, he joined First Premier Bank Card as a facility manager for 23 years before retiring well into his 80's.
As a devoted Catholic, faith and family were everything to Bob. He was an active member of St. Michael's Catholic Church, where he participated in Bible studies and the Benediction Oblates Group. Bob was also a member of the American Legion Post 15.
In his spare time, Bob enjoyed reading and watching sports, including The Twins, the Timberwolves, and soccer games. He also loved attending Augustana sports events. It should be noted that Bob's biggest hobby was driving Lela to and from all her hobbies.
Bob is most remembered for his sense of humor, smile, and kindness. Even through his health struggle, he thanked people for coming to visit him. Bob often had a quick joke at the ready bringing a smile to everyone's face who was with him.
He is survived by his sons, Vincent (Elizabeth) Feuerborn and Mark Feuerborn; grandchildren Nicolette Marquardt, Benjamin Feuerborn, and Samuel Feuerborn; sister Marilyn McLaughlin; brother Daniel Feuerborn; and many cherished nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Robert was predeceased by his beloved wife of 53 years, Lela Feuerborn; his parents; brothers, Marvin and Alan Feuerborn; and sisters, Ruth Harrison and Theresa Feuerborn.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 1:00 PM, at St. Michael's Catholic Church, (1600 S. Marion Road, Sioux Falls, SD.) Interment will take place at Toronto City Cemetery in Toronto, South Dakota. A light lunch and visitation will start at noon at St. Michael's Catholic Church. All are welcome to celebrate Bob's life. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the American Heart Association.
