Romaine Thomas Rezac "Bo", 73, passed away suddenly on February 22, 2026, at his home in Sioux Falls. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 AM, Monday, March 2, 2026, at St. Nicolas Catholic Church (140 W. Brian St., Tea, SD 57064). The family will greet friends for visitation from 2:00 - 4:00 PM, Sunday, March 1, 2026, at Miller Funeral Home - Westside Chapel (6200 W. 41st St., Sioux Falls), with a prayer service starting at 3:30 PM.

Romaine was born March 22, 1952, to Louis Rezac and Mary (Slaba) Rezac in Tyndall, SD. He grew up on a farm South of Dante, SD.

Romaine married Ruby Thaler on June 13, 1975, in Wagner, SD. They made their home in Sioux Falls, SD, and had two sons, Matthew and Neil.

Romaine was employed with Golden Rule construction for 40 years as a commercial Forman. By the early 1980's, he was known as "Bo" among his coworkers, short for Bohemian. His son Matt did not know this at first and would tell his father's coworkers they had the wrong phone number.

Often, he was tasked with some of Golden Rule's largest projects, including many schools, churches, and other recognizable structures throughout Sioux Falls. Some of his most notable works include the multi-year construction of munitions buildings at the Air National Guard and the rhino enclosure at the Great Plains Zoo. The saw blades may have stopped spinning, and the hammer is hung up for good, but his construction legacy will continue to be enjoyed by others for generations to come. After retiring, he rekindled his passion for farming with his two brothers, Mike and Dan, on the family farm near Dante.

In 1977, Romaine and Ruby built their home South of Sioux Falls. On weekends and evenings after work, they spent building their new home. This is where they raised their two sons, Matthew and Neil.

Romaine enjoyed the challenge of taking apart and fixing things. If it didn't work anymore, he could fix it and make it run. He never disposed of parts, screws, nails, or bolts. If someone needed something, he probably had the right size, and many times someone would ask if he had what they needed, and he usually did.

He taught his sons how to fix engines and make repairs on their vehicles. He also took great joy in showing his grandsons how to fix things as well, often spending time in the garage showing them how to weld or work on the engines.

Romaine was a member of St Nicholas church in Tea, SD. He served on the board for many years. He enjoyed being able to fix any of the maintenance issues that would pop up in the church.

Romaine's greatest pride and joy was his grandchildren, and he loved any opportunity to be able to spend time with them and watch them participate in sports or just spend time with them. They will remember him for his potato pancakes on a Saturday morning during their visits to Grandpa and Grandma's.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Ruby of 50 years; sons,  Matthew Rezac of Sioux Falls SD and Neil (Joni) Rezac of Prole, IA; his grandchildren, Abbigail Rezac, Jack Rezac, Ty Rezac, Mac Rezac, and Lucy Rezac; siblings, Stephen (Arlene) Rezac, Darlene (Robert) Kolda, Lavern (Sally) Rezac, Dorothy (Robert) Fink, Daniel Rezac,  Julie (Paul) Tolsma, and Michael (Laurie) Rezac; and a host of nieces and nephews. Romaine will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.

Romaine was preceded in death by his beloved son, Neil Rezac; brother, Stephen Rezac; sister-in-law, Laurie Rezac; brother-in-law, Robert Fink; and his parents, Louis and Mary Rezac.
